I had always figured that the telepaths were killed off because the Narn themselves feared the threat of having people among them who could read minds. The “telepath problem” has always had a number of possible solutions: the humans made them a tool of the government, the Minbari made them tools of the community, and the Centauri made them tools of the individual houses. It appears that the solution adopted by the Narn was the Final Solution. It is, of course, entirely possible that the Shadows manipulated them into doing this, just as they manipulated Earth into creating the Psi Corps.

In the DVD version of The Gathering, (I can’t remember if it’s in the original version) in the opening minutes, just after Sinclair picks up Lyta, Garibaldi pulls a guy out of the customs lineup on the accusation that he’s carrying dust.

Gun on the shelf in the first act, indeed!

Great commentary Neil.

It makes me wonder how long the shadows have actually been on Centauri, and if the first invasion of Narn wasn’t a shadow manipulation?

Another thought. Maybe the Shadows didn’t kill the Narn telepaths, but captured them, and used them as pilots for their own ships.

I thought that most Narn carriers of the telepath gene were wiped out by the Shadows in the previous Shadow war. I don’t know how much this page is correct, but it looks interesting:

How could G’Quan and the Narn telepaths fight the Shadows if the Narn telepaths were all killed?
JMS:Those were the last remaining ones, the older telepaths, their children all killed, too old now to produce any further children, and the technology of cloning or genetics was still way beyond them.

JMS:The story of the last crusade of G’Quan is actually quite interesting; I hope to get it into the show at some point. Right now it’s mainly background, even though I’ve worked it out fully.

JMS: And yes, initially the shadows had no interest in the Narns, until such time as the Narns, led by G’Quon, began to engage in sabotage and direct attacks to drive them off their homeworld. Then the killing started.

I know you are surprise that some of us go back and listen from 0. But it dose help in understanding the deep geeking. and it was nice to hear the start of three edge sword. good point on the dentist on going out on patrol.
