We’ve had a bunch of people mention that it would be nice to have a little more information in the titles about the content of the episodes. I’m also making mental notes about improvements to the site layout.
First, what are your thoughts on having episode titles here be more like the ones we use over at Slice of SciFi?
For example, we’d have:
Babylon Podcast #162: Interview with JMS, Part 2
Babylon Podcast #163: Feedbackapalooza
Babylon Podcast #167: Season 5: Day of the Dead
instead of just the show numbers alone as episode titles.
Also, I’ve already added highly improved buttons to add individual articles to various aggregate or social media sites (the Share/Save tags at the end of each article), plus a ratings gizmo, so you can rate an article or episode on a scale of 1-5 stars.
Would that help or detract from what you need or like to see on the website?
If there are any other suggestions for the website (aside from more photos and screenshots), now’s the time to voice them to get them considered!

The examples given would be a great start.
I like it alot. Improvements are always a good thing. You Rock!
It’s been a while ago now, but I was one of those strange folks that went all the way back to the beginning because I liked what I heard. So yes, through that lens of the Bab Podcast in its totality, a uniform easily sorted titling scheme would be utter coolness.
Thank you for all your hard work just to please me. Like Gary says, “You Rock!”
Well, not only am I enhancing the episode titles, I’m adding a few more tags to help with keyword searches. How I never used the tags “baseball” or “Zima” before escapes me.
And don’t gripe about the use of “Zhadum” in the podcast title for Show #109… podpress just wouldn’t take the apostrophes without pitching a fit. Works fine for the blog post title though, so maybe the post title will supercede.
Well, I for one am incredibly jealous of anyone with a life so perfect, with so little going on in it that they feel the use of “Zhadum” in a podcast title is worth griping about.
You said it; we understood it; communication was achieved. Anyone that dares gripe to you should be forced to transcribe all past episodes for the hearing impaired. That’ll learn ’em.
I’d like to make a little different statement.
The title as such does not really interest me (in a positive way) as I will always listen to the podcast (and yes, although you’ve never heard of me, I’ve been a loyal listerener since podcast number 1). So, the extra information is not really necessary.
But I do understand that it might me more informative for new listerers and that searche engines might catch up a little better.
And no, Neil and Gary, I don’t think that you will be picking up this podcast any better with a new title 🙂
And yes, I’m from the Jarsto country.
I like the idea of more information in the titles (and thanks for all the great work, Bab-Casters)! 🙂
That’s what you think Martijn. It will make it easier for me to reference the episode I’m calling in about!
I would like it. Or something simpler would be marking the ID3 tag with the title. That way you can keep the show # as is, and the tag would help us.
Really like the additions…maybe a note what is coming up next week?
I do have a slight complaint. Sputting in the season of the epsiode can really stretch out the title. It can alo confuse the season being discussed, with the season of the podcast.
Show = Season 5, Podcast = Year 4. Plus, Gary gets an iPod with a wider screen. Problem solved! 😉
I initially wasn’t going to put the seasons in there, but then I realized that there are many people out there who don’t have the episode titles burned into their brain cells, nor know at the sight of a title what season that episode was in. Plus there are similarities in episode titles between seasons, and even between B5 and Crusade. Given how many casual fans and even new fans are finding the show, and the podcast, I chose to err on the side of great detail.
Thus my decision to keep the “Season n” in there. I thought about using “Sn” but it looked weird to me, and wouldn’t work when we get to the movies and Crusade. But I did get rid of “Show #nnn” and just use “#nnn” for the podcast episode id.
I guess I could use my macbook as an ipod, since it clips off on my touch. I think a simple “Sx”, where x=season number would suffice.
e.g. Babylon Podcast #168: S5: In the Kingdom of the Blind
But the ninja always has the last word. 🙂
not to mention she’d spent 3 days last week changing the titles of all 167 of the previous episodes already….
I guess if you’re not in a rush I could do it all over again. *sigh*
but I expect a step up in quality voicemail content, ya hear!!
Okay… I just updated a couple titles. You guys have to tell me which version shows up where.
I have Babylon Podcast #168: In the Kingdom of the Blind (S5) as the podcast title, but used Babylon Podcast #168: In the Kingdom of the Blind (Season 5) in the post title.
Let me know which version shows up where, okay?
I’ll let you know tonight. Either way is an improvement. This way people can see the epsiode discussed, and see the season number if your mp3 player of choice scrolls the title.
Why not both the season and the episode number in such a shortened form: Babylon Podcast #168: 5×09 In The Kingdom Of The Blind? And for interviews: Babylon Podcast #XXX: Stephen Furst (Vir). This is how I rename the MP3s for easier reference once I download them.
I’m getting Babylon Podcast #168: In the Kingdom of the Blind (Season 5) on the ipod.
@Gary, so that means it definitely uses the post title to override the podpress specified title. I had a feeling it would do that, but I wasn’t sure if newer versions had modified that behavior or not. But the real question is: does this method satisfy the obsessive-compulsive pull of the exacting eye for perfection? 😉
@Chris, because the production number order and the airing order were not the same, which numbers do you choose to use and why? That’s a can of worms I don’t want to go anywhere near! 🙂
I’m happy with it Summer.
I’m in the production number camp.

Heck, WE don’t even know what’s coming up next week.
