While the public reveal and fallout over Garibaldi's drinking will have a farther reaching impact amongst the crew and even out to Mars than initally expected when this episode first aired, was it truly breaking ground in terms of the television portrayal of someone struggling with alcoholism beyond the stereotypes built in previous decades? The same thing with Lise educating Garibaldi on living and life; you can't make things perfect before moving onto the next thing because otherwise you'll end up stuck in the same place for a very long time. We chat about Lyta's growing power and growing anger, and the beginning of the fallout of her choices to take on Psi Corps head on. Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer discuss on "In the Kingdom of the Blind", and Summer has a few nits to pick about some of the rash, early actions to force the Alliance member worlds to give telepaths a home of their own. The argument can be made that Byron's fatal misstep was the timing of his assault on the secrets of the ambassadors, but Summer thinks that for someone who preaches peace and pacifism, that's just a poorly impulsive, irrational and childish first move. Tim thinks it highlights the true tragic nature of Byron's character, which for him makes the character flaws more believable. Written by Neil Gaiman, it's the first produced episode not written by JMS since Season 2 (since "Knives"?).
