<itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #135!
Put me in coach, we’re ready to play, today! Of course, since it’s the first day of the World Series, we have to put in our predictions for who we’ll think will win, or who we hope will win. Summer is rooting for Philly, but Jeffrey’s hating on the Fightin’ Phils! Summer just wants Philadelphia’s championship curse to end, and thinks this is a great chance for them to do so.
And, we have a moment of silence to mourn the decision to by Coors to discontinue Zima production. Could it be a Shadow plot? Let the silly speculation run rampant… that’s what we’re here for!
Call to Action: While we haven’t set a definite travel date yet, it’s time to start requesting donations to help fund Summer’s road trip into Vorlon Space, currently around mid-November, to catalog the items in Jeffrey’s storage locker, so we can help him consolidate his storage needs. Please donate, and make a notation that it’s earmarked for the Excursion into Vorlon Space, and those who donate will get first crack at items, before they’re made available to auction to the live feed listeners, and then to the general public.
Deep Geeking: This week, Tim and Summer delve into discussion about “No Surrender, No Retreat”. We talk about the decision to ask the League to stay on the sidelines until the fighting’s done; the timing of some of the events in the course of the episode; the difference between Sheridan choosing a philosophical solution to end the Shadow War versus resorting to a shooting fight to free the colonies that were under siege; and more.
Want more? Visit Deep Geeking, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.
Discussion: Jeffrey’s spent his time digging up Zima ads on YouTube. Because he could. Why is Zima now linked with zombies in Summer’s mind? Is Zima an undiscovered zombie repellent? Do we want to find someone from Zima to talk about the “good old days” when B5 was on the air?
Chris from England wonders if the relationship between Lise and Edgars might have been influenced by Psi Corps ahead of time, in support of the plot involving Garibaldi’s programming; and he surmises that the Med Bay might be near the fighter bays, to get wounded pilots to treatment quicker.
World Series Predictions (made on 10/22): Tim says Tampa in 7, Mike says Tampa in 5, Summer says Philadelphia in 5, and Jeffrey says Philadelphia in 5.

Do Over!
Cellphones, Dodger games, stadium organs, and podcast recordings just do not mix. Honestly, it sounded like a good idea in theory…
Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer talk about “Racing Mars”, delving into the abundant humor playing around the relationship between Franklin and Marcus and their cover story for going to Mars, in Ivanova relieving Sheridan of duty and in trying to make deals with smugglers in the hopes of opening up new supply lines for the station.
We also talk about the possible machinations behind the programming that’s driving Garibaldi to make the choices he’s making, and how much influence over him the programmed parts are having over him, and we get a small glimpse deeper into the Keepers and how deeply they embed themselves in their targets.
Woo. Hoo.
Go check out Deep Geeking when you get a chance, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.
Babylon 5 Extra: Just Mr. Londo by the great Luke Ski
Discussion: Tim wonders if the Drazi party that Ivanova attended was really another Green-Purple ambush, and apparently Tim never attended one of those 3-day parties while in college. Gary from Jacksonville joins in to give a Dragon*Con report on the Jerry Doyle and Walter Koenig panel that he attended.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #111!
Jeffrey’s happy, preparing to celebrate Kosho de Mayo, and giddy about the Dodgers winning big. Because Jeff’s heading out to Hawaii, talk wandered over to his appearance on the show in a Hawaiian shirt and overalls.
Community Project: Find the Hawaiian shirts worn on the show. We need to make a list.
JMS will be attending Cannes Film Festival, to screen Changeling, and is all sorts of busy writing other feature film scripts. Could JMS be writing the screenplay for Lensman? Summer is intrigued about the prospect of a movie about Rising Stars.
Listener Feedback: Feedbackapalooza! It’s a word that’s sticking now.
Mick comments on the baseball talk in both Babylon 5 and Star Trek: in B5, baseball is still alive, and in Star Trek the sport is long dead, but in DS9 baseball is back and strong. How’d that happen? Mick also points out other similarities between B5 and DS9. Gary wants to know what screen credits Jeffrey has where he can be seen sans encounter suit, and asks again about the Mayport story. Should there be a warning label for the George Johnsen interview? We can’t help it if you laugh out loud and distract your co-workers.
One vote submitted for a SciFi AllStars baseball team… and a question on whether Marcus could play baseball extrapolated from his skill with a Minbari fighting pike. Bethany from OK comments on “And The Rock Cried Out…” and on the one B5 episode to show someone new to the series. Eli thinks we missed a point in talking about “Z’ha’dum”, the hypocrisy/irony of Justin’s statements to Sheridan. Scott from the Gigcast proudly announces that he’s rented Season 1 Disc 1 and is about to dive into the series for the first time.
Theory: Zima is the modern replacement to the never-endingly regifted fruitcake. That’s the real reason why Zima exists in the 24th century… it kept getting passed on. Edmund adds some info from the Technomage trilogy to explain what happened during the White Star assault on Z’ha’dum (Galen did it). This leads to a discussion about what was going on on Z’ha’dum, if there was sleeping, or if it was a trap, or something else.
Non-sequitur: Pixar, Disney, wha?
Emails: Kurt from St George drops by the studio! Warlord adds commentary from JMS about the sacrifice of the White Star, taken from the back of one of the cards in the second series of trading cards. Aristotle wonders about how to direct new listeners to special podcast episodes first. Emily wonders about matching up Romo Lampkin vs Mr Morden. Jeffrey S wonders why human telepaths need to be on a line of sight when the Minbari telepaths could interfere with the Shadow ships from safely in the depths of their ships.
Gene from Greenville wonders what we’d want from what might be your last care package from home. Bill points out what he thinks is the worst plot hole in “Grey 17 is Missing”. Kate from Chicagoland wonders what Kosh’s personal effects may have been.
Second Life Info: FarPoint Media’s castle is at http://slurl.com/secondlife/beraudes/203/151/49.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #107!
It’s baseball season again, and Jeffrey has already started in on the Dodgers geeking. The conversation really does take a science fiction turn… B5 loves baseball, and Star Trek does not. What’s up with that?
Deep Geeking: “Z minus 7 Days”. After the silliness dies down, Tim and Summer discuss “Shadow Dancing”, the episode that culminates in Sheridan’s and Delenn’s goal to get all of the League Worlds to work together in mutual self-defense against the Shadows. The B-story deals with Franklin dealing with the consequences of his actions and his choices, by literally talking things over with himself. And Jeffrey adds his own perceptions on why the cast (and crew?) were starting to look shaggy and scruffy towards the end of Season 3.
Feedback: Tim reads a comment from Katie on the website, wondering where Jeffrey’s pants got to in the picture on the website. Jeffrey reveals that budget concerns led to people not getting hair cuts, and needing to share the pants allotment. Is that TMI, or what?
Jeffrey also regales us with an anecdote about a guessing game involving Polaroids and boobs. Michael is really trying to insert boobs into every FarPoint Media show… and Summer really doesn’t know if she can make it stop!
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.

Babylon 5 Information Gathering: If you know of a dead or abandoned B5 related website that may be in need of a new home, let Summer know! Maybe we can mirror it here or house it on a sister site.
Summer is still looking for one more of the long versions of the B5 promos that ran on TNT prior to Season 5, the ones narrated by Keith David… anyone have any old VHS copies of S5 they taped from TNT? Specifically, the :30 spots, one featuring Ivanova and the other G’Kar… they were part of the series of ads TNT ran promoting the addition of B5 to their lineup. We have a copy of the G’Kar one, now we’re holding out that someone out there has the Ivanova one!

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #88!
Jeffrey enlightens us as to what it’s like to live “in fire”, and how to avoid problems and still managing to keep abreast of the World Series.
Deep Geeking: Tim, Summer and Jeffrey talk about “Exogenesis”. Don’t forget, this is the episode where Steve “Snackman” Thorpe, Carrie Dobro and Jeffrey all appear as med techs (we didn’t, and we have a little fun with Jeff about that).
While this episode is really a low mark in Season 3, there are a few tidbits in it that reflect in later episodes, and later character behavior. We see the first time that Marcus and Franklin work together, we find out a little more about Corwin, and we witness a comedy of errors that leads to Ivanova inadvertently encouraging Marcus’ romantic intentions.
We can only imagine what this episode might have been like if JMS’ creative process hadn’t been so greatly interrupted.
B5 Audio Drama: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 17: “Questions of Authority” (TS: 21:52-27:25) What you’re hearing here on The Babylon Podcast is just a small part of the story… the full audio drama can be heard at Voices of Babylon, so what are you waiting for? Head over and check them out!
Remembrances: Jeffrey and John Radulovich pay tribute to producer / director Richard Compton, who passed away on August 11.
Listener Feedback: We discuss the voicemails and emails you keep sending in. Keep sending them!
Babylon 5 Information Gathering: Can we and should we mount a Babylon 5 propaganda campaign, in order to get sales of The Lost Tales to the point where Warner really really wants to greelight more volumes of TLT? Let us know…
Also, if you know of a dead or abandoned B5 related website that may be in need of a new home, let Summer know!
Summer still wants to find the long versions of the B5 promos that ran on TNT prior to Season 5, the ones narrated by Keith David… anyone have any old VHS copies of S5 they taped from TNT? Specifically, the :30 spots, one featuring Ivanova and the other G’Kar… they were part of the series of ads TNT ran promoting the addition of B5 to their lineup.
Yes, we really are still working out logistics on the Jerseys. We’ll keep you posted on when you can place your pre-order!
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.
Shameless related begging: There’s a box of Babylon 5 novels sitting here, books that were rescued from unknown fates at used bookstores in his area by Brad from the PodCulture podcast. The B5 library collection grows… if you have a request, send it in.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #65!
Summer and Tim C are joined by Tim A and Mike, and boy, do we miss Jeffrey.
Tim C has a bone to pick with Yard Dog Press: in publishing Claudia Christian’s memoir, they used a ST:TOS font on the cover of her book. Whoopsie. Tim also reads an update on what happened to the Babylon 5 fiction novels that had been set to be published by Mongoose.
About the Babylon Podcast swag: we’ve changed our minds… it’s going to be BASEBALL jerseys, not football jerseys, and YES dammit, you will be able to choose what color jersey you want to wear. I’m putting my foot down on that, because I don’t want to make things too difficult on the people running the shop.
Deep Geeking: This episode revolves around geeking on “Knives”.
We open with Sheridan and Garibaldi decompressing over batting practice, talking about mysterious circumstances in Down Below, and segueway into an apparent threat on Londo after he and Vir share a light musical moment.
We learn much about what’s been happening back on Centauri Prime, with the machinations and consolidations of power within new factions after the previous Emperor’s death, after Londo’s old dueling partner, Urza Jaddo, arrives at B5 begging for help in clearing his name and helping his house survive the political attacks.
Unfortunately for Urza, despite Londo’s rising star, he’s not in a position to help Urza save his position… and desperate men go to desperate measures to protect those they love.
Meanwhile, Sheridan experiences several attacks on his mind while learning the truth about what really happened to Babylon 4 (contrary to the official reports that had been filed). What his hitchhiker was and where it was really from, we may never know, but it won’t be the last time we encounter the time-space rift in Sector 14.
Listener Feedback: Just for the record, the FarPoint tag is officially spelled “boohkie”, all because Google kept pulling up websites for bookmakers. Make a note of it.
Edmund comments on foreshadowing in dialogue in the show, and he wants baseball jerseys, too; Jarsto has an idea for a companion show to The Babylon Podcast, and doesn’t give us any more info about that; Edmund loved the Tim Earls interview, and comments on elements in B5 that may have been flavored by old school British SF. Tim reads emails from Tracy about Green and Purple jerseys, and potential brawls at conventions; from Matt in Michigan on being unable to workout properly while laughing one’s ass off during The Jarsto Show, and on his search for Jeanne Cavelos’ B5 novels; Colin gives us some info from the novels on what happened to the keeper in the urn, in response to Tim A’s questions; Galen is behind in the shows, but wonders where the Vorlons came from.
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.
Shameless related begging: Summer’s working to convince any publisher to do an essay collection on Babylon 5. If you’d be interested in buying one if they did do a B5 collection, let Summer know, either here in comments, or over in the Babylon Podcast forums.
There’s a box of Babylon 5 novels sitting here, books that were rescued from unknown fates at used bookstores in his area by Brad from the PodCulture podcast. The B5 library collection grows… if you have a request, send it in.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #54!
Jeffrey’s back from Houston, where he met with listeners John and Satyajit, who have their own show called AstroCast, a podcast dedicated to the Houston Astros. They treated Jeff to a round of Buttery Nipples. He also throws out the welcome mat to other fans of the show who would like to treat him to a drink when he’s traveling around.
Interview: Maggie Egan (“Jane”, ISN Anchor)
Tim, Summer and Jeffrey engage in a delightful chat with Maggie Egan, who was the familiar and comforting face of ISN before and after the Clark Administration ran riot over Earth Gov.
She gives us an update on her latest projects: a creative ad spot for CBS’s “Without A Trace”, and a guest spot on FOX’s “Standoff”. The episode she’s in is slated to air in March, so if you watch it and you like the show, let FOX know that you’d like to see more of her! We learn about the differences between auditioning for commercials and auditioning for TV and film, the differences in stresses and relationships and expectations. And the money…
She then regales us with tales of auditioning for B5, and the fun of returning to the set time and again, with being surprised to come back to the series after she thought she’d been blown up, and her surprise at discovering at a convention that her character actually had a name! Tim and Summer both relate how much her performance resonated with how anchors should make people feel, and in making the series feel a little more real.
Maggie also tells us about the disapperance of her domain, and how she’s been lacking a website for several years now, which leads to all sorts of calls for tech help and offers for assistance. In the end, Summer ended up registering MaggieEgan.net for her, and will be putting together a new site for Maggie (right in the middle of doing websites for a whole slew of new FarPoint Media shows).
Listener Feedback: Gary from Jacksonville muses on whether Timov was modeled after Angela Lansbury in “Murder, She Wrote”; Gary again, commenting on how maybe we should have picked up Talia’s secret much earlier; Jenn from Dreamwatch mentions the JMS mailing list, which is an email digest of the posts available at JMS News, and Summer really does want to add more B5 related links to the site here; Jarsto comments on “Soul Mates” and the relationship progression between Susan and Talia; Gary from Jacksonville thinks that “The Long Dark” was merely a Dr Franklin romantic filler episode; Gary wants details on the podcast’s Season 2 pickup; Edmund geeks over hearing his own voicemail. Tim reads emails from Roz, who’s disappointed in a lack of B5 content in a show (but we don’t know which one) and the appearance of too many insider remarks; Craig loves the show and caught up on missed episodes in a flash.
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.
Vote for us! Let’s get this show’s rank into The Pickle’s Top 100!

Shameless related begging: Summer’s also really hoping to convince the publisher to eventually do a collection on Babylon 5. If you’d be interested in buying one if they did do a B5 collection, let Summer know, either here in comments, or over in the Babylon Podcast forums.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #28!
Tim and Summer envy Jeffrey as he enjoys Dodger Dogs to kick off the show, and discuss how good food and an appreciation for baseball were integral parts of life on Babylon 5, discuss a little about the upcoming B5 movies that JMS is working on, and start an informal pool on which stories might be the first ones to be completed.
Tim and Summer’s episode discussion this week is about “Babylon Squared”.
In “Babylon Squared”, the return of the Babylon 4 station that mysteriously disappeared without a trace 4 years earlier creates more questions than it resolves, and in the process we begin to get a sense of the much larger picture surrounding the story arc so far.
And don’t forget that most important of philosophical posits: Fasten, then zip?
images courtesy Gateworld and Lurker’s Guide
Listener Feedback: First, Jeffrey tells us about his memories of Tim Choate, the actor who potrrayed Zathras so unforgettably. Next, Tim, Summer and Jeff address a few listener emails and comments: Tim reads an email from Jim with info on what happened to the first 3 stations; Scott submits links about Babylon 5 Cookbook recipes; and Mike comments on our opinions about the quality and content of “Voice in the Wilderness”.
For voicemails, Alexis in Florida wants to know more about royalties and if the B5 cast will get more money from the resurgence of the show in new outlets; Jarsto from the Netherlands corrects us on which wife the dancer was, comments on the use of the Great Machine throughout the rest of the series, and wants to know how we view Londo’s capacity for self-sacrifice.
Vote for us! Head over to Podcast Alley and vote for the show this month (and every month!)… Let’s get this show’s rank into the Top 100!

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #27!
Tim and Summer dive deep into episode discussion again with “A Voice in the Wilderness” parts 1 and 2.
In “A Voice in the Wilderness”, the station becomes threatened by unforseen violent seismic activity on Episilon 3, the planet below that everyone thought was dead.
After several expeditions prove that there’s highly advanced technology far below the surface, the command staff scrambles to discover if the threat to the station is insurmountable or not, before it’s too late.
The violence on Mars escalates into open violence, and the lack of news sends Garibaldi into a frenzy to find out if the lost love of his life is still alive and safe.
Delenn’s old mentor shows up on the station, having lost his purpose for living, and all three storylines collide and form a good story that’s enjoyable despite some of the teasers and danglers that didn’t make sense.

Listener Feedback: Tim, Summer and Jeff address a few listener emails and comments: Tim reads an email from Edmund notes how the best parts of the series fit together like a jigsaw puzzle; Edmund has comments on negotiation tactics used in “By Any Means Necessary”; Jack is curious about Vorlon motivations to get involved with humans; and Jim wants to know what Vorlons eat.
For voicemails, Jonathan in California comments on how maybe the uneven episodes during Season 1 were because they weren’t written by the same person, or by someone with a different interpretation of the source vision; a comment on Garibaldi’s motorcycle quest being necessary to show us a more human side of the character; Jonathan in California on the fates of Babylon Stations 1, 2 and 3. Plus a big shoutout to Jim for taking the Vorlon to a Dodgers game!
