Feedback: We run the risk a temporal rift by having Gary on the show while potentially addressing voicemails that Gary sent in. Tim says he was very careful not to cross any streams, though…
Neil comments on the Season 5 Telepath arc having the same tragic spiral as the Centauri arc; Frank from WV comments on G’kar’s reluctance to hang out in Brakiri space during “Day of the Dead”; Gabe from Greenville adds a different perspective to why Morden might have appeared to Lennier… to ask that question!

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #142!
Sorry this is so late… Summer came down with a bad case of “too many projects”-itis, and completely forgot that she’d started to post this episode, but didn’t finish posting it. Yeesh.
JMS’ scheduled appearance at NY Comicon (Feb 6-8) may have to be canceled since the movie The Changeling has been nominated for several BAFTA Awards (the British equivalent of the Oscars).
Jarsto joins us this episode… proof positive that he was NOT captured by Vorlons for experimentation. He tells us about the upcoming new episodes of “Three-Edged Sword”, the audio drama over at Voices of Babylon, and their planning for new B5-based audio dramas, and the call for scripts and story ideas from other people.
Tim relates an anecdote from work that directly relates to our most recent episodes of Babylon 5, especially the topic of tonight’s discussion.
Deep Geeking: Tim, Summer and special guest Jarsto delve into “Intersections in Real Time”, definitely one of the most difficult episodes to watch the first time around.
The psychological abuse we see Sheridan being subjected to is also felt by the viewer because of the structure of the episode… there is no cut away to a B story, no time jumps in scene, and the relentless manipulation in pursuit of a truth they want to use for their own purposes.
It’s also another wonderful example of the use of a stage play composition, both in set design and writing/acting, to intensify the the emotional impact of the interactions and the reasons for them.
How much JMS’ background in psychology played in crafting this episode would be a fun thing to find out, and Summer wonders if JMS ever read Psychological Warfare by Col. Paul M. A. Linebarger (aka Cordwainer Smith).
And Summer was mistaken about a few details: Linebarger didn’t write the book for the Army… he was in the Army at the time, and it was published by Infantry Journal Press while he was with the Institute for Advanced International Studies, but the book was an examination of the topic from WWI and WWII. It’s also long long out of print, and copies run $500 and higher these days, but she’d love to read it someday.
Visit Deep Geeking, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.
Chat: Tim’s been geeking on the Apollo Moon Missions over at the Apollo Talks podcast, so check it out!

Back from Vorlon space, Jeffrey returns for the last show of the year.
Deep Geeking: This week, Brad and Mike join Tim, Jeffrey and Summer to discuss “The Face of the Enemy”.
Summer comments on the Clark’s propaganda against The Army of Light. Tim talks about how the tension level is very high due to the compressing of the story arc for season four. The gang go on to talk about cult of personality and how Clark assumes Sheridan is the center of the organization, even though he has always made it about the goal, not the man. Jeffrey reminisces on the Harlan Ellison / Walter Koneig scene.
Summer, Tim, Jeffrey, Brad and Mike would like to wish all their listeners a great holiday season, and a Happy New Year!

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #134!
Why did this turn into a discussion about the behavioral tendencies of cats?
Gary from Jacksonville is still here, having succumbed to the temptation of Mike’s stores of scotch, and because he really had a lot of angst about his voicemails being edited by Tim, and the dearth of B5 related interviews lately.
Call to Action: While we haven’t set a travel date yet, it’s time to start requesting donations to help fund Summer’s road trip into Vorlon Space, to catalog the items in Jeffrey’s storage locker, so we can help him consolidate his storage needs. Please donate, and make a notation that it’s earmarked for the Excursion into Vorlon Space, and those who donate will get first crack at items, before they’re made available to auction to the live feed listeners, and then to the general public.
Deep Geeking: This week, Tim, Summer and special guest Gary discuss “Moments of Transition”. There’s some disagreement on the perceived speed of Neroon’s change of heart, some great appreciation of Ivanova’s performance in the final scene, and more.
What are the chance that Gary won’t call in any voicemails on this episode? No it doesn’t matter that he’s sitting here with us…
Want more? Visit Deep Geeking, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.
Discussion: John in New England reminds us that the comic “In Valen’s Name” tells us what happened to B4 after the previous Shadow War, which leads to a discussion about the construction and design of B1-B3 and B4.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #133!
Are you sick and tired of Tim editing down your audio comments before sending them to Mike? Then do what Gary does and just come on by to sit in!
Interview: B5 fans have always been creative. This week, we are happy to introduce you to the “League of Non-Aligned Knitters”… B5 Fans Who Knit.

Tim, Summer, and Jeffrey chat with Catherine, Heather, Laura, Amanda, and Elizabeth about the convergence of Babylon 5 viewing and knitting (and other scifi shows). There are practical applications for scifi fans to know how to knit… you’re going to have to make your own clothing after the zombie apocalyse, ya know.
Be forewarned, the puns flow freely in this session… and there’s a knitted Dalek. How cool is that?

Discussion: It is really fun to find out that more people are still coming to Babylon 5 because of interests in other things, having never seen the show before and falling in love with it, keeping the fandom alive and growing.
We also discuss true options for scifi themed reality programming, something with more appeal to the average scifi fan than WWE Raw, and we talk to Gary to get the scoop on the voicemail madman.
And for some reason, the knitting puns still keep coming.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #129!
Jeffrey is under the weather this week, so Brad Bowyer of PodCulture joins us for his birthday!
Tim relays some brief JMS and B5 related tidbits that filtered in this week: JMS confirms that the Jeremiah finale “Interregnum” was meant to be a finale for him (and where is Jeremiah Season 2 on DVD, anyway?); “World War Z” has been picked up by Brad Pitt’s production company (script written by JMS… I wanna read a copy too!); JMS explained more about the “no more Lost Tales” statement (standalones are harder to budget than series); and Tim is disappointed by no new Lensman news yet.
Deep Geeking: Tim, Summer and Brad chat about “Lines of Communication”. The funny thing is, Tim has no recollection of seeing this episode ever before. There must be a rogue PsiCop around doing mind wipes, because it’s very very hard to forget the dancing Drakh scene.
We discuss the influence the bombardment of anti-B5 propaganda on Sheridan’s state of mind, the repurposing of the War Room, and the urgent need of Delenn’s intercession on Minbari affairs, which have deteriorated since her dissolution of the Grey Council, and the connections Frankling and Marcus are making on Mars.
Truly, Summer can empathize with the crew’s seemingly perpetual lack of sleep.
Go check out Deep Geeking when you get a chance, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.
Discussion: Summer promotes the newly available “Chronologies of Babylon 5″ (available now from Babylon 5 Scripts); James in Dallas sent in an email in just to double-check Mike’s jello-wrestling preferences; Arkle really wanted to submit a question to JMS about “A Call To Arms” because he didn’t like the music… both Summer and Tim liked the music that Evan Chen composed for that movie and for Crusade, so we aren’t sure what specifically Arkle didn’t like.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #124!
Kosh. Rastaman. I got nothin’.
Feedbackapalooza Part Deux!! Chris Lester from Metamor City Podcast and C.A. Sizemore are still in on the Feedback Fun.
Colin doesn’t appreciate the tone of JMS’ announcement; Freehold South chimes in on the JMS announcement, and feels blindsided by it; Bethany from OK comments on “Into the Fire”, agreeing with Tim’s desire to see what was going on in the Alliance ships saving Sheridan and Delenn, and disagreeing with Summer calling the Vorlons/Shadows “whiny”.
Email from Jerry in Ashburn comments on alternatives to deeper explorations of the revelations from “Into the Fire”, and suggests that “Intersections in Real Time” could have been cut (we disagree!); Edmund weighs in on the JMS announcement, theorizing that JMS might be trying to flex his newly found status to see what he might be able to create; John in Birmingham agrees with Brad’s viewpoint on JMS’ announcement (a comment from PodCulture).
New question: Vipers vs Starfuries? What do you think? Summer thinks the Vipers might actually take out the Starfuries, and while Thunderbolts might fare a shade better, they’d still lose out.
Mike Smithwick responds with what he would have cut from B5, and what he would have added in; Ann in CA wonders if JMS’ announcement was more of an indication that he hasn’t had the chance to really focus on creating more B5 stories, be it lack of time or introduction of a block; an X-Files tangent leads to a comparison between Chris Carter’s long-term work versus JMS’ long-term work.
Jeffrey notes that we haven’t gotten Christopher Franke and Ed Wasser for us to talk to, and promises to do better; comments on inconsistencies “Into the Fire”; Andy comments on the “Into the Fire” discussion, and chimes in on what he thinks could have happened had Londo failed in his plan to kill Cartagia and destroy the Shadow ships on Centauri Prime; Valerie in MD disagrees with Tim’s opinion that “The Long Night” was a bad title… she also would love to listen to a Lensman podcast, and is waiting for our commentary on the Script Books (we’re working on that last one).
Go check out Deep Geeking when you get a chance, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, get ahold of Summer.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #121!
Jeffrey has an upgraded studio at FarPoint Media Los Angeles, and boy does it make him sound good. Are they really working on the FarPoint Media Hawaii location? We shall soon see.
Tim had to attend family functions, but we’ve more than made up for it by having Lejon from Chandler in studio, and Gary from Jacksonville joining it to discuss some of the latest B5 news with us.
Discussion: We’ve already reposted JMS’ comments on moving forward with more Babylon 5, and the fan reactions are still flying all over the Internet. So Summer, Jeffrey, Gary, Michael and Brad discuss, in great detail and depth, with occassional comment from the chat room.
Anyone want to investigate the possibility of low budget fan film projects in the B5 universe? We already have fan-based audio projects, and archival projects… wonder what the options are and the chances are of B5 movies coming from a studio other than Warner Bros, or from a funded fan base, a la the many Star Trek and Star Wars fan film projects that are already out there.
And no, we’re not going to re-record the Babylon Podcast Season 3 opening again!
Go check out Deep Geeking when you get a chance, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, get ahold of Summer.
Second Life Info: FarPoint Media’s Second Life space is now the penthouse suite of Third Life Books, the place for SL versions of Michael A. Tim, Summer and Jeffrey welcome Brad on the line, and Kris in studio. The puns are out of control.
Interview: We are pleased this week to talk with The great Luke Ski, creator of the new FuMP hit, “No Sleep ’til Babylon”.
Luke tells us about his being a B5 fan, of creating this song and many many others. Luke also tells us about the fundraising drive to help out Tom Smith.
We try to put Luke to the test and come up with potential songs on the spot… will he get back to us later with some gems? We’ll have to wait and see.
Oh yeah… Ding.
Voicemail: Gary from Jacksonville needs clarification on whether the caves where Sheridan met Lorien were real, or metaphorical, being a construct where Lorien “caught” him; Gary needs clarification on when the 20-year deadline was set on the remainder of Sheridan’s life; Arkle gives us his thoughts on why B5 isn’t as high in the public consciousness as Buffy and other shows (and battles his cat in the process), and thinks the teaser ads on PTEN may have been the problem.

Anna is still here, live in studio, and since we’re on a feedback roll, we just kept it going…
Email: Al recounts a B5 group viewing that included a local TV critic who viewed “Severed Dreams” with them; Mitch O wants to know what favorite part of the show we’d like to have seen expanded upon, and what parts would we have wanted to see less of; George Brickner tells us about his B5 action figure collection, which leads to a discussion of some of the goodies Tim and Summer each have; Bill W recounts B5 airing schedules back in the day; Kazzy wants to know what other awesome episodes to listen to; Paul in Vegas wants to know when to view “In The Beginning”, chronologically speaking; Joe D requests the addition of reviews of the Script Books… all we need is a volunteer who has all 15 volumes and some extra time.
Bill laments the poor portrayal of Nightwatch members in “Ceremonies of Light and Darkness”; Molly adds a theory about the failure (or non-activation) of the Z’ha’dum planetary defense systems; Brendan wants to know how young someone can successfully be introduced to Babylon 5, and we suggest he start listening to How to Grow Your Geek, hosted by Susie the Southern Geek.
Jeffrey joins us for a message from Jason, who wants to know if there were any more music offerings from Andreas besides the collaboration album featuring B5 cast members.

Sorry this is late to the feed… technical issues ran rampant.
Tim, Summer, Jeffrey and Michael are joined by Anna, live in studio (she’s in town for a conference), and she’s just in time to experience Feedbackapalooza!
But first, Summer gets to ask Jeffrey about the production side of detonating Kosh’s helmet in “Falling Towards Apotheosis”, and we learn about the dangers of using too much primacord on a television set.
Voicemail: Eli from Portland contrasts Vir’s and Londo’s ability to apologize; Gary wonders about the discrepancies between Vorlons creating human telepaths and the assumption that they were created as cannon fodder in the war; Gary again, wanting to know about the state of homelessness on Earth and buying into the government’s statement that no one was homeless; Bethany from OK is angry that none of the BSG people realize that their story’s roots come from trails blazed by B5 and other old scifi shows; Gary disagrees with Tim’s comment that the Shadows didn’t have a Sheridan contingency plan; John from Jersey got his Script Book Volume 15; Gary relays JMS’ comments on the monster in “Grey 17 is Missing”; Starfury spotted at the Air & Space Museum; Gary again, thanking Brad’s editing skills in pulling the finished show together; John from Jersey comments on the B5 episode scheduling during first run (one more time, it was different in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh); Gary wonders why it seems that Morden is still hanging out on the station after the Shadows start moving openly; Josh from Bangor weighs in on the Shadows picking Garibaldi’s Starfury out of the pack that was milling around.
And thank Brad for the musical interlude: “No Sleep ’til Babylon” by The great Luke Ski
Second Life Info: FarPoint Media’s Second Life space is now the penthouse suite of Third Life Books, the place for SL versions of Michael A. Tim and Summer are eager for tonight’s episode, but Jeffrey is nowhere to be found. By a twist of fate, our in-studio guest, James Paul (Scicomer), is not only a Babylon 5 fan, he’s also a researcher involved with the newest Mars lander, and he brought Script Book Volume 15 and a bottle of Corralejo with him!
And then, there was much Mars geeking.
Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer, with James, discuss the pivotal events in Falling Towards Apotheosis. Taking on the Vorlons is a bold move, even for someone who’s returned from the dead.
Discussion: James tells us how he discovered Babylon 5, how he was on set to watch the filming of Londo’s arthropod battle scene in “Sic Transit Vir”, his meeting of June Lockhart and of The Great Maker.
In addition to letting Summer stroke and paw his pretty copy of Volume 15, James has also made the Library of Congress aware of the script books to they can acquire copies for the archive. He also wants to figure out how to get a “definitive” collection of science fiction works in the archive as well, so if anyone has any suggestions, take a peek at the online catalog to see if any of your favorite classics or groundbreaking works aren’t in there yet.

When the boys are away, the girls will rule the geekdom. Or just play harder.
Deep Geeking: Summer welcomes Cat (SciFi Ranter Girl from the Lipstick Aliens), graphics designer and huge B5 fan (and long-time FarPoint Media chat room denizen) Cat Hulberg, and Susie the Southern Geek (host of How to Grow Your Geek) to come onboard and Deep Geek on “The Hour of the Wolf”, the Season 4 premiere episode.
Here you have the women in John Sheridan’s life going through various stages of denial, grief and bargaining, in an attempt to find out for sure what happened to him at Z’ha’dum, and by the end of the episode, there’s still no closure in dealing with what happened, nor any new insight into knowing what did happen.
The girls geek on.

We see Dr Franklin, hanging around in Down-Below, searching for something, but not quite sure yet. What he finds for a time could be a reflection of his own situation, or something else entirely. Then we meet the replacement Vorlon ambassador, and Lyta returns to the station, to resume her duties with the new Vorlon, desperate to find out what happened to Kosh, and volunteers for a field trip on the White Star.
Isn’t life just a little more interesting with telepaths on board?

Summer is still looking for one more of the long versions of the B5 promos that ran on TNT prior to Season 5, the ones narrated by Keith David… anyone have any old VHS copies of S5 they taped from TNT? Jeff wishes everyone a Happy Vorlontine’s Day, and Tim, Summer and Jeffrey take a moment to recognize a podcast milestone… okay, moment over. Let’s get to the geeking!
Deep Geeking: We have a Deep Geeking treat for you… a guest geeker!
Mike McCafferty, actor and geek, joins us to share his long pent-up Babylon 5 theories. He believes that “War Without End” is the Grand Retcon of the series, and we all discuss a lot of points from casting to plot adjustments and future Retcon necessities in the series.
We argue about time travel and the story changes necessitated by Sheridan replacing Sinclair, the differences in the time compression between “Babylon Squared” and “War Without End”, and so many more nitpicks, that most B5 geeks should be quite satisfied.
Visit Mike’s website and say hello. And we’ll let you know when the Invisible Man DVD hits the shelves!
Second Life Info: FarPoint Media’s castle is at http://slurl.com/secondlife/beraudes/203/151/49.
If you go to Starship Sofa, check out the episode containing “Going Through Changes” by Pat Murphy. Summer read the story, and people have been enjoying the reading.
Babylon 5 Information Gathering: Can we and should we mount a Babylon 5 propaganda campaign, in order to get sales of The Lost Tales to the point where Warner really really wants to greelight more volumes of TLT? Let us know…
Also, if you know of a dead or abandoned B5 related website that may be in need of a new home, let Summer know!

Tim, Summer and Jeffrey are joined by Brad Bowyer for tonight’s discussion. It really is all about Santa Kosh, and we discuss JMS’ thoughts on the current WGA strike.
Summer lists many B5 print resources, including novelizations and guides… and if you are interested in buying/trading the books currently in the B5 library, leave us a comment!
Deep Geeking: Tonight’s geeking focuses on “Ceremonies of Light and Dark”, and some of the undercurrents simmering below the surface story.
B5 Audio Drama: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 21: “Across the River of Fire” (TS: 47:48-52:38) What you’re hearing here on The Babylon Podcast is just a small part of the story… the full audio drama can be heard at Voices of Babylon, so what are you waiting for? Head over and check them out!
Babylon 5 Information Gathering: Can we and should we mount a Babylon 5 propaganda campaign, in order to get sales of The Lost Tales to the point where Warner really really wants to greelight more volumes of TLT? Let us know…

Shameless related begging: There’s a box of Babylon 5 novels sitting here, books that were rescued from unknown fates at used bookstores in his area by Brad from the PodCulture podcast. The B5 library collection grows… if you have a request, send it in.

Jeffrey enlightens us as to what it’s like to live “in fire”, and how to avoid problems and still managing to keep abreast of the World Series.
Deep Geeking: Tim, Summer and Jeffrey talk about “Exogenesis”. Don’t forget, this is the episode where Steve “Snackman” Thorpe, Carrie Dobro and Jeffrey all appear as med techs (we didn’t, and we have a little fun with Jeff about that).
While this episode is really a low mark in Season 3, there are a few tidbits in it that reflect in later episodes, and later character behavior. We see the first time that Marcus and Franklin work together, we find out a little more about Corwin, and we witness a comedy of errors that leads to Ivanova inadvertently encouraging Marcus’ romantic intentions.
We can only imagine what this episode might have been like if JMS’ creative process hadn’t been so greatly interrupted.
B5 Audio Drama: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 17: “Questions of Authority” (TS: 21:52-27:25) What you’re hearing here on The Babylon Podcast is just a small part of the story… the full audio drama can be heard at Voices of Babylon, so what are you waiting for? Head over and check them out!
Remembrances: Jeffrey and John Radulovich pay tribute to producer / director Richard Compton, who passed away on August 11.
Listener Feedback: We discuss the voicemails and emails you keep sending in. Keep sending them!
Summer still wants to find the long versions of the B5 promos that ran on TNT prior to Season 5, the ones narrated by Keith David… anyone have any old VHS copies of S5 they taped from TNT? Specifically, the :30 spots, one featuring Ivanova and the other G’Kar… they were part of the series of ads TNT ran promoting the addition of B5 to their lineup.
Yes, we really are still working out logistics on the Jerseys. We’ll keep you posted on when you can place your pre-order!
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.
Shameless related begging: There’s a box of Babylon 5 novels sitting here, books that were rescued from unknown fates at used bookstores in his area by Brad from the PodCulture podcast. The B5 library collection grows… if you have a request, send it in.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #82!
Summer, Jeffrey, and Tim are joined by Brad and Tim A, and the sock puppets just plain take over the joint. Tim throws out a theory for JMS’ sock puppet escapade, that maybe there was a method behind the faux madness.
And just how can we convince WB that more B5 product from them would be just as well received, if not better, with just a little bit of well-placed advertising? How can it make sense to not advertise a project because you’re worried about the financial risk, when running an ad in a space targeted to Babylon 5 fans will ensure maximum saturation in the group most likely and most interested in buying said project?
Summer’s confused and upset about the lack of support and promotion for “The Lost Tales” DVDs, and Brad wonders if WB does it on purpose. Which opens up ten other cans of worms, but we want to do more, and in return, receive more B5 for it.
Interview: Peter Woodward joins an excited B5 crew to talk about his Babylon 5 experience, which all began with his being late for an audition for “A Call to Arms”, and how Galen’s enigmatic nature just *is*.
We hear how yet another cast member would gladly rent out body parts to continue to do more B5 projects, and gives us as much insight into Galen as he can without activating the remote zapper feature in JMS’s secret B5 cast & crew implant.
Peter’s also been a cog in other genre shows, with appearances in “Brimstone” and “Stargate”, and portraying the Source of All Evil in “Charmed”, and he tells us about growing up watching Doctor Who, and enjoying science fiction and it’s characters, and more.
The Galen-focused show titles get a little silly.

We promise to get to the Deep Geeking on “Over There” next week. Oh, and put down the sock puppets, and slowly back away.
Bonus: Stay tuned after the closing credits… there’s an extra treat. Trust us.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #81!
Jeffrey is in the main studio in Phoenix, Tim the Younger has joined us, and Petter Hansen (Warlord in IRC), is visiting us. His server in Norway handling the live feed, and he has arrived bringing Norwegian beer for the boys to consume.
Warning: This episode runs far off the beaten geeky path from the very beginning, and there is much silliness sprinkled in with the B5 content.
Studio Banter: Jeffrey gets the scoop from Petter on Babylon 5 viewing and fandom in Norway; Michael and Tim the Younger try to raise elder gods, and we discuss various Lovecraftian influences in the Babylon 5 universe; Jeffrey wants everyone to change their names to fit into the Narn or Minbari naming conventions;
Should we update the B5 drinking game rules?
Fan Cast: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 11: “The Deluge” (TS: 20:08-24:59) What you’re hearing here on The Babylon Podcast is just a small part of the story… the full audio drama can be heard at Voices of Babylon, so what are you waiting for? Go over and check them out!
Listener Feedback: Mike discusses new B5 swag and props he saw at Dragon*Con; Tim is a recent B5 fan, and has managed to lure his mom into watching the series too; Tim reads an email from Australian contest winner Mark; Steve in MD enjoyed Lost Tales and wants more, but argues about the use of “Colonel” in a ranking system that’s obviously naval based; Mark H comments on Lochley’s comments about leaving the demons behind, thinking that maybe that’s one of the reasons for causing Sol to go nova and destroy Earth in “Deconstruction of Falling Stars”; Neil comments on the argument between Tim and Summer about “Liquid Sky” being a far worse movie than “Armageddon”.
Voicemails: Edmund responds to his Fake Edmund responder; John from Jersey begins the commentary on the “Over There” segment of “Lost Tales”, criticizing the portrayal of the Centauri bombardment of Earth as the worse thing Sheridan could have seen… when it’s really not; John from Jersey reminds us that his side is part of the three-edged sword; John in Michigan is on the “Deathwalker” episode, and comments; Edmund on Bronzethumb’s list of LoTR-B5 parallels, and the source of “Last, Best Hope”; John from Jersey with more thoughts on “Over Here”.
Summer still needs to find the long versions of the B5 promos that ran on TNT prior to Season 5, the ones narrated by Keith David… anyone have any old VHS copies of S5 they taped from TNT? If you want to avoid spoilers, then skip these next few shows until you’re all caught up!
Fan Geeking: Jarsto gives us a little insight into what’s gone into the making of “Three-Edged Sword”, and working with both Edmund and John on crafting the episodes and the overall arcs of the story.
What you’re hearing here on The Babylon Podcast is just a small part of the story… the full audio drama can be heard at Voices of Babylon, so what are you waiting for? Go over and check them out!
Fan Cast: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 9: “The Calm” (TS: 16:30-21:33)
Fan Geeking: Brad tells us how he joined the show, and the work that goes into editing the final product that you, the listeners, will receive over the feed. He also tells us how he’s used “The Lost Tales” to reel in his girlfriend Christina as a new fan of Babylon 5, and the appeal the series has for him, even after all this time.
Listener Feedback: We have voicemails! Bronzethumb in Australia gives a rundown on how he introduces potential new viewers to B5, and wonders about the correlations between B5 and Lord of the Rings; Gary from Jacksonville has a run of voicemails to close out the feedback segment.
Babylon 5 Information Gathering: Can we and should we mount a Babylon 5 propaganda campaign, in order to get sales of The Lost Tales to the point where Warner really really wants to greelight more volumes of TLT? Let us know…

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #75!
Summer, Tim C, Jeffrey and Michael are joined in studio by Tim A, and wonder of wonders, we have Jeffrey in his own studio, on his own microphone setup, and wow!
Jeffrey announces that the Babylon Podcast has been invited to attend an in-store signing in Los Angeles to celebrate the release of “The Lost Tales” DVD, and to also include some of the pomp and circumstance as part of an upcoming show. He will be bringing his camera and talking to the “Lost Tales” cast members.
Special Report: We have a “Lost Tales” DVD teasers!! No spoilers here, unless you count Summer’s descriptions of some of the running jokes in the extras to be spoilers. There will be a Deep Geeking episode about “The Lost Tales” going out as a separate show.
Deep Geeking: This week, Summer, Tim the First One and Tim the Younger dive into Deep Geeking™ for the episode “Passing Through Gethsemane”. Jeffrey said he’d participate, he may again have been stunned by the geeking details.
First, Lyta returns from Vorlon space, and announces that Kosh has requested that she be his assistant and also a liasion for the Vorlons.
Second, a member of Brother Theo’s order is haunted by memories he can’t account for, and events unfold that bring up the questions of what makes a person: their mind, their spirit, or their memories? What are the implications of a “death of personality” as a form of capital punishment?
This episode has one of the deeper theological threads running through it, and we dig into that thread pretty deeply… belief and faith, spirituality and religion, and the nature of forgiveness.
Fan Cast: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 6: “Preparations” (TS: 42:40-47:25)
Listener Feedback: Jeffrey confuses alien monks in burlap with this episode’s monks before we dive into email submissions. Edmund corrects himself about where the Triluminaries came from and how they were distributed throughout time. Tim reads comments from emails and from the forums, and reads the Top Ten Reasons why JMS won’t come on the show for an interview, and Summer reminds folks of JMS’ reasons why; Catelyn comments on growing up without Star Trek being the dominant (or only) SF show on TV to watch; Asana loves the fan fiction being presented here, and wonders where we’ll go once the episodic coverage has been completed.
Tim C recommends David Gerrold’s “The Man Who Folded Himself” as good reading for those interested in the paradoxes of time travel, and we still haven’t figured out how we’re integrating the novels into the Deep Geeking here on the show.
Are you interested in listening to more Babylon 5 audio drama? Voices of Babylon is coming soon, and maybe you can get your own story out, too.
Also, if you know of a dead B5 website that may be in need of a new home, let Summer know!
Summer would also like to find the long versions of the B5 promos that ran on TNT prior to Season 5, the ones narrated by Keith David… anyone have any old VHS copies of S5 they taped from TNT?
Jerseys Are Go! Interested? Let us know if you’d place a pre-order!
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.
Shameless related begging: Summer’s working on an idea for that essay collection on Babylon 5. If you’d be interested in buying one if they did do a B5 collection, let Summer know, either here in comments, or over in the Babylon Podcast forums.
There’s a box of Babylon 5 novels sitting here, books that were rescued from unknown fates at used bookstores in his area by Brad from the PodCulture podcast. The B5 library collection grows… if you have a request, send it in.

Jeffrey is zipping along the highway again, while Tim C and Tim A drool over the four nominations that the Babylon Podcast received for the 2007 Parsec Awards. While Tim C has put out the call for fan suggestions for segments to submit for judging consideration, the deadline for us to submit those segments was Monday, July 23rd, so while you’re welcome to submit suggestions for your favorite segments to include for submission, we can’t use them anymore for this year.
Jeffrey announces that the Babylon Podcast has been invited to attend an in-store signing in Los Angeles to celebrate the release of “The Lost Tales” DVD, and to also include some of the pomp and circumstance as part of an upcoming show.
Special Report: We finally have a “Lost Tales” DVD sighting!!
Deep Geeking: This week, Tim the First One and Tim the Younger dive into DeepGeeking™ for the episode “A Day in the Strife”.
First, the station is threatened with destruction by an alien probe unless they can submit a detailed and complicated series of technological, scientific and mathematic problems. If they answer everything correctly, they are told they’ll receive an untold bounty of advanced technology, and if they answer even one question incorrectly, they’ll be destroyed.
Second, G’Kar is coerced into relinquishing his position and sanctuary on Babylon 5, but the Narns on the station convince him that his best choice is to stay put and continue doing what he’s been doing with the resistance.
In an around all this is a labor dispute that Sheridan’s having trouble resolving. All in a day’s work.
Fan Cast: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 5: “Schroedinger’s Narn” (TS: 27:25-32:17)
Listener Feedback: fund-raising slogans for “Kosh for President 2008″ campaign; Bowling in Grey Sector or Lifeforms in Thirdspace? You decide… Gary from Jacksonville comments on #71 and what Londo may or may not have seen in the Zen Garden; Number 12 muses on the similarities in Delenn’s and Londo’s paths and choices, and where those similarities diverged; Gary on #72 and the arrival of Marcus; Number 12 on an alternate theory on why Londo did not see anything when Kosh rescued Sheridan; Gary commenting again on possibilities and implications in “Comes the Inquisitor”; Colin asks Jeffrey on his thoughts about a CGI G’Kar and the possibility of JMS ever going that route.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #73!
Summer has been temporarily assigned to the Babcast embassy on Minbar, so Edmund from Greenville (Number 6) and Tim Adamec join Jeffrey and Tim. Jeffrey announces that he’s been the subject of the shortest “E! True Hollywood Story” episode ever; please let us know if you happen to catch it.
Jeffrey also has his eye on using The Playboy Mansion as the “Kosh for President” headquarters. And we’re still waiting on our copy of “The Lost Tales” so we can tell you all about it!
Deep Geeking: This week, Tim the First One, Edmund, and Tim the Younger engage in DeepGeeking™ on the episode “Convictions”.
What on the surface seems to be a run-of-the-mill mad bomber story reveals deeper themes once the boys dive in. We giggle over the marvelous scenes in the wrecked transport tube between Londo and G’Kar. We discover that this episode provides a springboard to discuss the evolution of Lennier’s character. We enjoy the arrival of Brother Theo and his Dominican brothers on the station, and wish that we had seen more of them throughout the series. Carlson, the episode’s villain manages to transcend stereotype to become, as Tim the Younger says, hyperreal. And Michael Vejar’s camera work adds dynamism to the visuals.
Fan Cast: The Three-Edged Sword Episode 4: “Shifting Currents” — An obvious alliance between the EAS Netherlands and the Narn forces might be undermined by a power play from the Psi Corps. (TS: 37:43-43:10)
Listener Feedback: technical glitches with the Stellarcom system leaves only one voice mail from… Edmund from Greenville. (Poor Trampas – he gets no love from the Three-Edged Sword.) But we have emails to make up for it. Caitlin gives us love and encourages Jeffrey in his conflict with The Duck. Loz in the UK wonders about the changes in Marcus from his introduction in “Matters of Honor” through “Voices of Authority”. Kathy Mary fires off three geek questions; good thing there are geeks on hand to answer. John in Glendale crows over his purchase of B5 DVD sets from Sam’s Club. Isaac Lin comments on Mike’s observation regarding faith and Londo. Mike’s smart! Mike Tuck is jonesing for an interview. Michael O’Hare, pretty please? Tracy Herrick expresses admiration for JMS’ ability to drop the end of the saga at the beginning of the saga. The Harlequin and the Tick-Tock Man finally see eye to eye.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #67!
Summer, Jeffrey and guest commentator Edmund Boys talk about Tim being missing in action this episode, and also open the doors to the burgeoning availability of Jeff’s B5 collectibles. Summer will have to figure out a way to arrange travel to Los Angeles, so she can catalog Jeff’s stash and help him sell those items to Babylon Podcast listeners and then to the greater B5 collector community.
And Jeff proposes that we need to have sex. A lot of it. For a week or so… nothin’ but sex. As a platform for “Kosh for President”. On the Green ticket (not on the Purple ticket). Discuss. It’s out of hand, but try to discuss anyway.
Deep Geeking: This week’s episode is “Divided Loyalties”, and even though Tim has been vocal in the past about his displeasure with this episode, he really has a good reason for not being present to voice his reasons live.
So Summer and special guest Edmund Boys discuss the episode, and Tim submits his opinions and comments via a pre-recorded statement. Since Tim isn’t there to rebut our refutations to his explanations, Summer and Tim win this round of the argument.
In “Divided Loyalties”, we see Rangers go to desperate measures to warn the station’s command staff of the presence of a spy, including bringing Lyta back to the station, at risk to her freedom since she’s been reclassified as a rogue. We also see a little more interaction and deepening of the relationship between Sheridan and Delenn.
The sudden heating up of the relationship between Susan and Talia, and the unmasking of the spy (as well as how they’d remained hidden so long) are all wrapped up a little too fast for the tastes of most die-hard fans, but given the pending cast changes at the time, JMS did a pretty fine job with what he had to work with in such a short time frame.
Listener Feedback: Just for the record, the FarPoint tag is officially spelled “boohkie”, all because Google kept pulling up websites for bookmakers. Make a note of it.
Jerseys Are Go! Interested? Let us know if you’d place a pre-order!
This week we field voicemails from John in NC about batting cage sound effects; Kurt from the ScapeCast chimes in on the appropriate equipment for the Narn Bat Squad; Kurt again, back to recount the story on how he missed seeing “Knives” the first time around; Kurt one more time, with details on what happened to Sol to cause the events we see in “Deconstruction of Falling Stars”; Eric from NY wants a Purple football jersey with “E. Smith” as the name; Jim from Brookline on football jerseys over baseball jerseys.
Nerf Bats or Pugil Sticks?
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #65!
Summer and Tim C are joined by Tim A and Mike, and boy, do we miss Jeffrey.
Tim C has a bone to pick with Yard Dog Press: in publishing Claudia Christian’s memoir, they used a ST:TOS font on the cover of her book. Whoopsie. Tim also reads an update on what happened to the Babylon 5 fiction novels that had been set to be published by Mongoose.
About the Babylon Podcast swag: we’ve changed our minds… it’s going to be BASEBALL jerseys, not football jerseys, and YES dammit, you will be able to choose what color jersey you want to wear. I’m putting my foot down on that, because I don’t want to make things too difficult on the people running the shop.
Deep Geeking: This episode revolves around geeking on “Knives”.
We open with Sheridan and Garibaldi decompressing over batting practice, talking about mysterious circumstances in Down Below, and segueway into an apparent threat on Londo after he and Vir share a light musical moment.
We learn much about what’s been happening back on Centauri Prime, with the machinations and consolidations of power within new factions after the previous Emperor’s death, after Londo’s old dueling partner, Urza Jaddo, arrives at B5 begging for help in clearing his name and helping his house survive the political attacks.
Unfortunately for Urza, despite Londo’s rising star, he’s not in a position to help Urza save his position… and desperate men go to desperate measures to protect those they love.
Meanwhile, Sheridan experiences several attacks on his mind while learning the truth about what really happened to Babylon 4 (contrary to the official reports that had been filed). What his hitchhiker was and where it was really from, we may never know, but it won’t be the last time we encounter the time-space rift in Sector 14.
Listener Feedback: Just for the record, the FarPoint tag is officially spelled “boohkie”, all because Google kept pulling up websites for bookmakers. Make a note of it.
Edmund comments on foreshadowing in dialogue in the show, and he wants baseball jerseys, too; Jarsto has an idea for a companion show to The Babylon Podcast, and doesn’t give us any more info about that; Edmund loved the Tim Earls interview, and comments on elements in B5 that may have been flavored by old school British SF. Tim reads emails from Tracy about Green and Purple jerseys, and potential brawls at conventions; from Matt in Michigan on being unable to workout properly while laughing one’s ass off during The Jarsto Show, and on his search for Jeanne Cavelos’ B5 novels; Colin gives us some info from the novels on what happened to the keeper in the urn, in response to Tim A’s questions; Galen is behind in the shows, but wonders where the Vorlons came from.
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.
Shameless related begging: Summer’s working to convince any publisher to do an essay collection on Babylon 5.

Tim and Jeffrey are joined by Jarsto this week. That’s right… Jarsto has muscled his way onto the main show. Actually, he’s graciously accepted our offer to fill in for a very ill Summer, and having his B5 knowledge and insight available live on-the-fly is a wonderful treat.
This is what happens when Summer isn’t around, and the boys begin to play. Play with what, you really don’t want to know.

Deep Geeking: Tim and Jarsto talk about the entertaining and revealing episode “And Now For A Word”, where an ISN news crew is sent to the station to do a routine “36 Hours” report, and end up being caught in the crossfire as Babylon 5 gets caught in the middle of the shooting war between the Narn and the Centauri.
Interpreting the differences in how the characters act under pressure with cameras around than in the situations we’ve seen them in previously can be an interesting contrast.
“And Now For A Word” is available for download from iTunes.
Listener Feedback: Jarsto responds to… his own voicemail… weird; Edmund comments on the Jeanne Cavelos chat, an interview that hasn’t officially aired yet, and muses on Harlan Ellison and Neil Gaiman playing in JMS’ universe.
What are your thoughts on having a section where folks can find B5 novels for those who are looking for them?

Whoops. This is what happens when you do too many shows per week. Sometimes, you forget to create an important segment… like the opening and closing segments of this week’s Babylon Podcast.
Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer (along with studio guests Brian and the other Tim) move ahead with episode analysis from Season 2 with “A Race Through Dark Places”, another Season 2 episode with layers and subexts that aren’t fully revealed until later.
A rogue telepath is being interrogated by the Psi Cops, and at the moment of death he gleans a clue to where he might find more runaways: Babylon 5.
Bester arrives on B5, looking for Talia’s help in uncovering the rogue telepaths and bringing them in from the cold. Before he can completely convince her to help him, he’s attacked by the rogues and they take Talia away with them.
We learn which member of the command staff has been helping those telepaths inclined to do so escape the far reach of Psi Corps, and we see a familiar Lurker come to the forefront, learning once again that not everyone is exactly what they seem.
We also discover that there may be quite a bit more to the gifts Talia received as a farewell from Jason Ironheart, and that those undiscovered talents help tip the balance in a telepath battle for survival on the station.
Delenn asks Sheridan out to dinner, in order to begin learning more about each other, and become a better bridge between humans and Minbari, as she wants. Sheridan and Ivanova also deal with an inconvenient bit of bureaucratic red tape regarding budgets and allowances for their quarters, which is resolved in a familiar manner.
Episode order for this section of Season 2 is also discussed.
“A Race Through Dark Places” is available for download at iTunes.

Tim, Summer, a contemplative Jeffrey, and a wisecracking Michael spend the warm-up cracking themselves up. We are so damned easily amused. This is what happens when you stay up late at night and geek on Babylon 5. Don’t try this at home kids!
Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer (along with studio guests Brian and the other Tim) move ahead with episode analysis from Season 2 with “Soul Mates”, one of the better episodes of Season 2, rife with intrigue, hidden agendas and sly humor.
Londo Mollari has been granted a wish from the Emperor, in honor of the 20th anniversary of his Ascension. He has requested a divorce from his three wives, and has summoned them to the station so he can choose which ones he’d like to excise from his life.
At the same time, Matt Stoner arrives on the station and immediately sets Garibaldi on edge, and during the course of reporting his odd encounter, discovers that he and Talia had a previous relationship, one which wasn’t pleasant for Talia.
Is there a direct connection between Stoner’s arrival on the station, and Londo’s wife Mariel, and her purchase of the dangerous-to-Centauri artifact that he brought on board? Is there a deeper relationship between Mariel and G’Kar, knowing where Stoner found the artifact in the first place? None of these questions are resolved completely, and the possible iterations of who-knew-what-when and who-knew-whom can be argued in circles for a long time.
We also see a side story with Delenn dealing with the unexpected physiological changes she’s undergone because of her transformation into a human-Minbari hybrid. Her asking Ivanova for help and their interaction and female bonding makes for a very amusing break from the emotions of the Garibaldi-Winters-Stoner triangle.
“Soul Mates” is available for download at iTunes.

Listener Feedback: Jeff and Mike abuse Summer and her geek girl shopping habits; Haiku: Zathras; Lambeau from Houston has B5 Limericks for us; Chris from Detroit thought that Robin’s interview was parody; Walter from LA on Show #46, and compares it to Wingin’ It; Jeffrey lays down the snark on Mike regarding Martian property sales. Tim reads an email from Sean on the Drazi conflict from “Geometry of Shadows”.

 <itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #42!
We have some special reports and updates for everyone this week!

First up, we have Stephen Furst, who’s stopped by to promote his latest directorial project, the new SciFi Channel original movie, “Basilisk”, starring Yancy Butler, Cleavant Derricks, Jeremy London and Stephen himself. Tune in to SciFi Channel this Saturday, November 25, at 9pm ET to catch this campy monster movie romp.
Next, Pat Tallman talks a little about her Be A Santa charity, a holiday fundraiser supporting Penny Lane, a Southern California charity providing services and support for children’s social services.
Pat helped them build a computer lab for the kids, but for the holidays, she needs donations to purchase gifts for the children, either of money or toys. FarPoint Media opens the donation doors with $100… let’s make a Babylon 5 push to help Pat provide gifts and decorations for the kids this year.
Next, our studio audience is introduced, but they aren’t unfamiliar voices to FarPoint Media fans. Mike is still fascinated by the fact that people want to come by to listen to this podcast (given the fact that fans in Europe lose out on some sleep to catch our live feed, he really shouldn’t be surprised). Brian chimes in that he was more familiar with JMS’ comics work, Rising Stars and Midnight Nation as examples, and Tim mentions his reading of JMS’ Fantastic Four work.
Vote for us! Let’s get this show’s rank into The Pickle’s Top 100!
Shameless plug: Summer contributed an essay to the essay collection, So Say We All: An Unauthorized Collection of Thoughts and Opinions on Battlestar Galactica, now available at your local bookstore and at Amazon.com.
She’s also dedicated to convincing the publisher, BenBella Books, to eventually do a collection on Babylon 5. If you’d be interested in buying one if they did do a B5 collection, let Summer know, either here in comments, or over in the Babylon Podcast forums.
We are still considering doing a separate B5 Fan Tales segment in the future, so send us those favorite anecdotes of yours.
Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.
