Welcome to Show #21!

No guest interview this week, and no Jeffrey either, so Tim and Summer decide to run wild with B5 geeking.

“By Any Means Necessary”
First up, episode discussion about “By Any Means Necessary”. Tim and Summer revel in how well the A and B stories tie in together, and delve into whether or not the B story could have been the better choice for the A story. They also discuss what the intended political repercussions for Sinclair might have been had he stayed around, or whether we’ve already seen what was going to happen.

“Signs and Portents”
Next, Tim, Summer dive into “Signs and Portents”, technically the first of the WHAM episodes. The mysterious Mr Morden arrives with a mission in mind, and much speculation abounds concerning his selection criteria, and what exactly happened in that hallway with Kosh.

Listener Feedback: Tim and Summer dive into emails and comments: Walter from LA agrees with commentary on B5 being the battering ram that opened the door for other scifi shows with arcs and characterization; Arioch asks about cast photos for the voices of The Babylon Podcast;

This week’s voicemail is a message from Greg from Galvin Australia comments on the comic that tells the story of how Sinclair and Garibaldi first met on Mars, and the use of Ivanova wallpapers. Summer would also like to know where in the world Babylon 5 is still airing.

Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.

    Hi Guys. It is actually Goulburn Australia where I’m from, not Galvin.
    And no, there is no B5 airing here at the moment. ๐Ÿ™ Unless you count my DVD Player which is currently playing Season 5.

    I had forgotten about the other comic mini series “In Valens Name”. I have an urge to dig them out of the comic boxes at the bottom of the warderobe and read them again. But Tim was right about the artwork. It was bad. But I still read it because I was more interested in the story so I forgave them a bit about the art.

    Thanks everyone for the kind words. Pug, glad you’re enjoying the episode analyses. Summer’s great to discuss them with; she’s so knowledgeable and has great insight.

    “Signs and Portents” was actually the first B5 episode I saw. Unforutnetly I didn’t have the backgroud of jump gates and alien races to set me up for the scene with the Shadow’s appearance, although it still sent a chill down my spine. Great movie making.

    This episode also shows what I like most about JMS’s work. He’s really good at developing characters. All of the B5 personalities would be interesting in any story setting, not just in space. The “What do you Want” question responses give you a marvelous insight into the characters while giving a major vehicle to propel the story. Too much sci-fi is rich on content and short on characters.
