Welcome to Show #225!
Continuing the Feedback marathon, Tim, Summer and Bret discuss their alcoholic beverage selections for the evening. And Summer has kettle corn, so between salty, sweet, and hoppy, we’re all ready to go.
Listener Voicemails: Despite what you hear, this episode is not the Neilapalooza, and no, we still don’t know why Bret became fixated on Corwin having a mullet.
We really should have talked about the Booze of Babylon 5, shouldn’t we have?
Link: Han Solo’s in Firefly?! (seriously, this will be my untoppable rationalization for buying Firefly on Blu-Ray)
So how much alcohol will it take to get Bret to sing for us? Do we really want to find out?
Lurker’s Guide 2.0: Summer is expanding the documentation to be covered at Lurker’s Guide 2.0, the major change being converting the episode guide into a full Wiki with cross-referenced topics, tidbits and everything you’d want in a Wiki. She’s still searching for pictures of rare collectibles, photos of magazine covers and toys, and all sorts of other B5 goodies that didn’t get included in the original guide during the years after Crusade. Let her know if you want to lend a hand.
More Parody/Filk Songs Wanted: If you know of any more B5-related fan songs out there, definitely let us know, so we can let other B5 fans know where to buy them! And if those CDs are out of print, let’s brainstorm on ways to get those songs back out there for fans!

Babylon 5 Information Gathering: If you know of a dead or abandoned B5 related website that may be in need of a new home, let Summer know! Maybe we can mirror it here or house it on a sister site.

Just a couple of things seeing as I don’t have time to record a voicemail.
Firstly, let’s get mullets out of the way. Here in the UK the mullet lived on thanks to our version of kids TV show “Fun House”, which was fronted by the mighty Pat Sharpe. Google him, you’ll see what I mean. The show ran until 1999, I can’t remember if the mullet did too…
And so onto Doctor Who. Remarkably, the show started three years before Star Trek. But for me, what makes it quite unique is that my mum, as a child, used to hide behind the sofa while watching it. The point is, my mum, a woman with absolutely zero interest in sci fi, watched a sci fi program. So it’s a program spanning generations, that somehow gets viewers from the “bell curve”. That’s still true today, people I know who would consider me an uber nerd for the sci fi I watch, are quite happy to squee about Doctor Who.
And finally, to actually give Babylon 5 some sort of mention, from the comments in this video I’d say U2 hatred has a similar magnitude to B5 love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MipPH24q4yk Good knit together of the whole Clark battle, though… and if you prefer, mute it ๐
It was a bit weird to have all those Gary calls in #224 and then a swath of my calls to start #225. Is that the order in which they were called in?
Here is the note that I sent Tim that he hadn’t posted yet:
I just called in with an idea today, inspired by listening to the
discussion with Jason Davis at the beginning.
It might be interesting for you to talk to Kathleen David either on
the show or outside of the show.
Her weblog is at
http://kathwp.malibulist.com/
I’m not sure whether she still works at Del Rey, but I believe that
she did when they published the B5 trilogies.
She often appears at East Coast conventions (it is a family affair
with Peter David also on panels, and the kids and some of them in
the costume contests). She probably has some good stories to talk
about and might know some of the behind the scenes information about
getting those books back in print or not.
Check out the piece she wrote about Andreas when she found out when he died.

Anyway, whether you can get any B5 book info out of her or not, you
could still have an interesting show. And if you could get Peter
David as well, you could have several shows worth or interviews.

Before it gets yanked again here’s a well done video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKJZQPDntyg&feature=related I think I mentioned this one in my last call to the VM show, though at the time the first version of this video had been yanked.
