Babylon Podcast: Show #38

Posted 2006-10-25 12:15 am in Shows, Year 1 by Summer

Welcome to Show #38!

Jeffrey’s staying in Buffalo this week, in search of snow that’s oddly missing. Typically, the snow hits several hours after he leaves town. What we don’t know is why Jeff’s causing snow to fall everywhere, but only after he leaves town. Tim and Summer can only giggle at the unique predicament. The crew also fuels the “Lost Tales” rumor mills, as best as the most insatiably curious fans can. We aren’t helping one bit… yet.

Tim and Summer continue the Season 2 episode discussion with “Revelations”, a busy yet important episode, in that many secrets from the first season are brought to light, and the seeds for more secrets are sown.

G’Kar is still on a mission to uncover what really happened in Quadrant 37, and barely escapes with his life; Delenn emerges from her cocoon, a completely different being from the one who entered it; Garibaldi is awakened from his coma still unaware of who shot him or whether the plot he stumbled across was foiled; Sheridan’s sister arrives with an unrevealed message from the past, and all of that merely scratches the surface of what happens in this episode.

Tim and Summer debate and discuss what they can before time runs out.

Vote for us! Let’s get this show’s rank into The Pickle’s Top 100!

Listener Feedback: We finish up the most recent backlog of voicemails: Steven Nelson recounts a tale of his encounter with Stephen Furst at a recent BayCon, and a filking of “Mollari”; Jarsto comments on our discussion from Show #31 about the rogue Lurker teep, and his feelings on “Crusade”; Jarsto again, commenting on Show #34 and how the names of the Earth Alliance battleships foreshadow events in the series. Tim reads an email from David asking for a reality check, making sure that somewhere deep down Tim understands that Babylon 5 is just a story… right?

We may start collecting B5 fan tales for future segments, so start sending those in. And we promise to try to keep Tim from singing in the future.

Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.

Instructions for Listening Live

Posted 2006-10-24 10:32 am in General by Summer

I’ve created a separate page with instructions on how people can listen to us recording live on Wednesdays.

The Listen Live! instructions are in the nav bar underneath the banner, and hopefully they are complete enough to get most people started.

I will be adding links to the software applications, so people can go download them for themselves, but if there’s an app not listed here that you think is pretty easy to use, let Summer know, at summer @ sliceofscifi.com.

Babylon Podcast: Show #37

Posted 2006-10-18 12:15 am in Shows, Year 1 by Summer

Welcome to Show #37!

Tim, Summer and Jeffrey discuss the bit of news that’s been trickling out about the pre-production status of “Babylon 5: The Lost Tales”, but we may have to wait until November for filming to begin before getting solid info to speculate on and dream about. Also for today, we have another Listener Feedback Extravaganza on tap this week… sit back and enjoy the geeking.

Listener Feedback: Starting out with comments and emails: Casey on what new Grey Council members are told after they join; Jim Carr on the details of Sinclair’s assignment to Minbar after Santiago’s assassination, as told from the novel “To Dream in the City of Sorrows”; PFerg muses on Psi Corps using mindwipes to create a willing and submissive army of minions.

For voicemails, Zack Ricks from Geek Survival Guide apologizes for what could be construed as a disparaging B5 fan comment; Jarsto has several comments on time loops, Vorlons and how they play with others; Gabriel in LA comments on the impact of the good guys failing to save the day in “Chrysalis”; Ty(?) from Oregon on Vorlon agendas during the Earth-Minbari War; John wants to know if the we had any comparisons of B5 to the new BSG, which leads to some interesting revelations about shows having the staying power to compel people to look forward to multiple viewings; CA in Phoenix with two messages on mindwipes and possible time constraints for the procedure; Josh on the time travel paradoxes; how Draal got the time vortex open. Daniel (IronEagle) chimes in with a final email about what he’s spent to jumpstart his Babylon 5 addiction.

For those who want to join in the fun of listening to the live feed, follow the instructions listed here to listen to us as we record, catching the show before the edited version goes out on the podcast. You can also go to the IRC chatroom at irc.freenode.net, channel #babylonpodcast, and join with the other folks listening in live and giving us live feedback as we go.

Babylon Podcast: Show #36

Posted 2006-10-11 12:30 am in Shows, Year 1 by Summer

Welcome to Show #36!

Jeffrey is in Telluride this week, looking for snow to film, and regaling Tim and Summer with tales of the beautiful skyscapes and the free beer.

Next, we talk with Carrie Dobro, best known for her role of Dureena Nafeel on Crusade, but she also portrayed a medic in the third season episode “Exogenesis” alongside Jeffrey and The Snackman.

Carrie tells us stories about sitting in the makeup chair for hours, her different experiences with mud and tight costumes, and with extensive prosthetics in “Hypernauts”, and the fun of working with her Crusade co-stars, and the physical nature of Dureena’s character. Watch out when she’s playing with the blades.

We also learn about her role as producer of Pickets, a highly-regarded film that had made it’s way around the film festival circuit, and the challenges of filming on a schedule when your outdoor sets have been victimized by weather. And bugs. And poison ivy. Unfortunately, we can’t see the film playing anywhere or on DVD anywhere, but we’ll keep an ear out and let you know if it becomes available.

If you want to listen to us live as we record episodes, tune in at 9pm EDT/6pm PDT. You can find all of the necessary info here, including instructions on how to join the IRC chatroom for live interactive feedback from the Draco Vista Studios.

Listener Feedback: Tim reads an email about the Vorlons in the “Babylon Squared” time loop, an email of thanks from Matthew for doing the podcast and helping keep the B5 fandom passions alive. Jeffrey’s really fascinated by the shiny gondolas going up and down the river.

A giant supersized feedback show will be coming your way next week! For those of you who can’t wait till next week to hear it, the feed will be going live at our usual time on 10/11/2006, at 6pm Pacific.

Vote for us! Let’s get this show’s rank into The Pickle’s Top 100!

Tonight’s recording update

Posted 2006-10-04 1:43 pm in General by Summer

We will be starting around 5pm Pacific, not 4pm Pacific.

For our European listeners, you’ll have to adjust your alarm clocks again… sorry about the last minute notice.

Babylon Podcast: Show #35

Posted 2006-10-04 12:15 am in Shows, Year 1 by Summer

Welcome to Show #35!

Tim and Summer welcome Jeffrey back from his travels, and continue beating the dead horse known as “Is Pluto a planet or not?” Summer comes down on the side of “the more planets in our solar system, the merrier”, and Jeffrey thinks the bean counters are winning.

Jeffrey, Tim and Summer talk with Patricia Tallman and John Radulovic about their memories of acclaimed actor Johnny Sekka, who portrayed Dr Benjamin Kyle in “The Gathering”, and who passed away on September 14th. Pat talks about how it was to work with him on-screen, and John tells us more about working with him from a director’s perspective, and later, Jeffrey touches on his memories of meeting him during conventions.

Vote for us! Let’s get this show’s rank into The Pickle’s Top 100!

If you want to listen to us live as we record episodes, that feature will be be available starting September 6th, 9pm EDT/6pm PDT. You can find all of the necessary info here, including instructions on how to join the IRC chatroom for live interactive feedback from the Draco Vista Studios.

Listener Feedback: This week, we experiment with taking live callers with commentary on what we’re discussing. Chris Patterson joins us from the lurkers in the chat room, and adds his impressions on the interaction between Kyle and Takashima, and how the threads that were seeded weren’t able to be followed through during the series.

Remember, the feed goes live earlier than usual for recording on 10/4/2006, at 4pm Pacific. A more tradition feedback discussion will return next week.

Your feedback does matter, and is welcome! You can call us at 206-338-2259, or email us and tell us what you think… and likely hear it played or read on the show. Please try to keep the voicemail comments as brief as possible.

Season 2 episodes are not available for purchase at iTunes yet.

Podcast Recording Update

Posted 2006-10-01 10:52 am in General by Summer

Another heads-up for the fans who’ve been enjoying listening to us live while recording the show.

This Wednesday, we’ll be starting the recording 2hrs earlier, at 4pm MST/PDT, to accomodate our interview guest’s schedule.

So tune in to the feed, and join us in the chatroom!

Our Shoutcast Streaming Servers are:
http://cultofsummer.com:8000/listen.pls
http://stream.froosh.net:8000/wingin_it.m3u

cultofsummer.com is in the USA, and froosh.net is in Australia, so choose your closest connection. For reasons only known to the mysteries of bandwidth configurations, froosh.net seems to have less delay than cultofsummer.com. Go figure.

The chatroom for the podcast is #babylonpodcast at irc.freenode.net, and I will be monitoring the chatroom as best I can while we’re recording, but likely not as much during the interview portion.

Enjoy!
