I can’t really put a finger on what it is I didn’t like, it was just sort of a visceral thing.
But hey, at least I stuck it out for the whole show. My grandma and my dad BOTH quit about 3 episodes into the run because they couldn’t take the music. Also, my grandmother did not approve of Lochley being on as a major character (even though it was only for 3 eps). Judy (which is her name and what I shall call her from here on out) was one of those people who refused to even give the character a chance. She hated Lochley from day one, and didn’t have any love lost for the actress playing her either. And don’t even get her started on how she felt about what Lennier did in Objects At Rest. Let’s just say, she took it personally.
So, Arkle, I’m guessing Judy didn’t bother with “Lost Tales”.
I didn’t care for the music for “A Call to Arms”, actually. There’s one scene with Garibaldi on the bridge of the Excalibur where I swore, the first couple times I saw it, that an alarm was going off…and it was the background music!
On “Crusade”, however, the music was evolving as quickly as Franke’s music in the first season of B5, and I really liked the opening theme.
No, she just skipped to the Galen/Sheridan part. I mentioned in the voicemail, but it got cut, that she loves the Technomages in general, and Galen in particular. She didn’t have any trouble with the characters on Crusade generally speaking, she just couldn’t handle the score (or Lochley).
I can understand being angry at Lennier for that… a lot of my friends were either cool with it, because it had been set up and it showed a moment of weakness, or they were angry that he wouldn’t have given into that.
I am curious to hear more about Lucy’s hatred of Lochley… was it more the actress, or just the character overall in both series?
I don’t think it would have been that hard for us to see visits to the station at least 3-4 times per season, because it makes sense. B5 is probably the best place to drop off artifacts for study to be transported back to Mars, to take on supplies and give crew members a place to have short R&R breaks. Being on such a high-profile mission would have meant that both Captains would have to communicate eventually, as well.
I think that was one thing I was looking forward to… seeing more interaction with B5 as Excalibur’s mission got dicey. Alas, we were denied.
I think you mean Judy, but I’ve never really been able to get a straight answer out of her, and gave up trying. It’s not worth the aggravation. Just like it’s a bad idea to EVER say anything even REMOTELY nice about Ralph Nader while she’s in ear shot.

Cant say that I remember the music from ACtA, but I do like the music from Crusade a lot (and yes, Im envyous of Summer and her soundtrack). The Crusade music was quite uniqe and gave the show a kind of melancholy mood to it. Especially the distinct music that often played in the Excalibur/Space scenes. It took a few episodes to warm up to but then I loved it. Still do.

It seemed to be widely available in the US when it first came out, at least for a time, but I have no idea if it got the same treatment in Europe.
And I think we’re going to have to try to set up an interview with Evan Chen when we get to discussing the Crusade episodes. Maybe we’ll have better luck with him than we’ve had trying to get Christopher Franke on!
