Welcome to Show #213!
Tim and Summer continue to go through more feedback, and more funny side thoughts that just come running in fast from left field.
Feedback: Gary gives a shout-out to Steve Wynn for providing him with his own copy of “Parliament of Dreams”, and Summer gives a shout-out to Edmund; Neil from Bowie recommends the Big Bang Theory episode “Staircase Implementation” from last season where B5 is mentioned several times; Gary muses on capital punishment in the B5 universe; Neil offers some possibilities for extending the life of the podcast, which leads to a surprise discovery that JMS is listed as a cast member of the upcoming Thor feature film; Gary thinks that Delenn manipulated the Grey Council and Sinclair to get the outcome she wanted

Lurker’s Guide 2.0: Summer is starting a push to get Lurker’s Guide 2.0 completed and finished, including missing collectibles, photos of magazine covers and toys, and all sorts of other B5 goodies that didn’t get included in the original guide during the years after Crusade. Let her know if you want to lend a hand.
More Parody/Filk Songs Wanted: If you know of any more B5-related fan songs out there, definitely let us know, so we can let other B5 fans know where to buy them! And if those CDs are out of print, let’s brainstorm on ways to get those songs back out there for fans!

Download link has been broken since this showed up in the RSS feed… and this seems to happen every time there’s a new episode? Is there a problem with the servers that they don’t cope with the influx of new downloads?
I’m sure everything will be fine if I wait a few more hours, it usually is.
Same thing here.
:: Sigh ::
Me too.
As for JMS’ role on the Thor movie, from Facebook:
Fans of J. Michael Straczynski:
I’d mentioned a while back that I had a cameo on the Thor movie (in addition to the now revealed aspect of working on the story). Well, a video just hit the web showing an interview with me on set and a bit from one of my scenes in which I try to pick up Thor’s recently landed hammer (based on a story from my comic). The video is here:

What you do or don’t believe about the overlap in audiences for science fiction and football playoffs is really irrelevant, in that you have the hard fact that in the time zone where B5:TLotR and the game didn’t conflict, the ratings were much better.
My argument was that the ratings weren’t the primary reason the series never materialized. Partly the story didn’t fully engage us, and from what I recall (I may have to do some research, because my memory’s a little fuzzy), it was also partly because of a disagreement over who was paying what percentages for production of the show.
When disputes about who’s picking up the tab are part of the equation, unless your pilot grabs 10 million viewers, you’re probably not getting off the ground.
And it really sounds like I need to see if Chuck Lorre is up for a chat with us, doesn’t it? ๐
Regarding The Big Bang Theory, Chuck Lorre (I think–it may have been one of the other producers) has said in an interview that (a) they poke fun at geeks affectionately because they were all geeks themselves, but (b) none of them really “got” B5.
I admit that I didn’t watch Legend of the Rangers when it first aired. 1) I had no idea it was on, 2) It aired before I re-discovered B5 [Long story short: The friend who introduced me to it graduated in ’97 when I was a freshman and no one else on campus watched it], and 3) When I finally got around to watching it a few years back when Sci-Fi re-aired it, I’m glad I watched the game.
This is where Freud fits into Babylon 5:
Sometimes a 5 mile long rotating cylindrical station is just a 5 mile long rotating cylindrical station…
Kurt, you say that now.
Have you ever heard any of the innuendo jokes relating B5 and Excalibur to Lochley and Gideon? I swear, you could be hard pressed (no pun intended) to not go to the sex place when viewing Crusade in the future.
Oh yeah, this is gonna be fun ๐
Sounds like a Phallacy to me. ๐
Oddly enough, while I’m clearly a huge B5 fan and genre TV geek beyond that, I’m also a huge football fan. So it came down to this, on that fateful night: watch the B5 movie live, when I was already taping it for (theoretical) endless viewing in the future, or watch a playoff game where it was snowing like crazy and would never be shown again (at least, not back then)?
Yeah. Football won.
And that was then. Now? With the ability to record four channels at once? I never watch anything live, except for football games, which I watch via NFL RedZone.
