Welcome to Show #230!
We have a report from Danny in Adelaide about Armageddon Expo! He talks about Pat Tallman’s appearance and a Skype call from JMS. The big news is about the
Sherlock Holmes Arthur Conan Doyle-Harry Houdini story that JMS sold to Dreamworks, and that there are whispers in the dark about a Babylon 5 project broached by WB to The Great Maker.
Feedbackapalooza: Father Beast lists his Babylon 5 Top 5 Episodes (and yes, it is possible to just jump in a watch a random couple of episodes); Neil expounds on the distinction between “best episodes” and “personal favorites” episodes; Neil reminds us that the ratings for Crusade on TNT would have had any effect since the series had been cancelled before the first episode had ever aired; Neil relates how the Crusade cancellation affected him at the time; Colin wonders if there’s a connection between Lorien and the Soul Hunters, because of how they both spoke of souls;
Gary butt-dials us, but has a question about Dr Chambers not getting more action scenes; Gary dials us on purpose to tell us about JMS writing a treatment for Repent, Harlequin; Hated Bunny surmises that the Vorlons could have pulled off the “Day of the Dead” sleight-of-technology that allowed that section of the station be “on Brakir”; Neil weighs in on the CGI vs Models debate, which leads to a discussion on the costs of remastering CG on Star Trek vs potential costs for B5 (which also leads to a tangent into Miami Vice and making home video releases appealing); Father Beast comments on the similarity between Ironheart’s shuttle explosion and Kes’ shuttle explosion from Voyager… because she evolved into a higher being.
Tim reads several emails from Gary about an interview with Rick Berman on Ron Moore, and Babylon 5; from Tony M about getting the B5 novels back in circulation in ebook format; Frank tells us about JMS writing answers back on a note with questions from his late wife; Joe thinks that Tim is “out of his mind wrong” about incorporating B5 characters into Crusade, which leads to a long tangent about “stunt casting” pros and cons, and whether or not Crusade really used stunt casting
Lurker’s Guide 2.0: Summer is expanding the documentation to be covered at Lurker’s Guide 2.0, the major change being converting the episode guide into a full Wiki with cross-referenced topics, tidbits and everything you’d want in a Wiki. She’s also still searching for pictures of rare collectibles, photos of magazine covers and toys, and all sorts of other B5 goodies that didn’t get included in the original guide during the years after Crusade. Let her know if you want to lend a hand.
More Parody/Filk Songs Wanted: If you know of any more B5-related fan songs out there, definitely let us know, so we can let other B5 fans know where to buy them! And if those CDs are out of print, let’s brainstorm on ways to get those songs back out there for fans!
Babylon Podcast Social Communities:
Babylon 5 Information Gathering: If you know of a dead or abandoned B5 related website that may be in need of a new home, let Summer know! Maybe we can mirror it here or house it on a sister site.
