Welcome to Show #286!

Discussion: Tim and Summer discuss most of the contents of J. Michael Straczynski’s memoir, Becoming Superman. We talk mostly about what he covers from his time on The Real Ghostbusters and Captain Power, and getting from Murder, She Wrote to Babylon 5.

And check out the Slice of SciFi interview with “Power of Grayskull” director Rob McCallum

For those who wish to listen to a far more in-depth discussion about “Becoming Superman”, head on over to YouTube and watch Norm & Char dive in for 3 STRAIGHT WEEKS about the book:

I finally finished the book & was blown away. Now I need to catch up on these various reviews/programs. (Please tell me this isn’t the last episode yet? I’m so behind here. Story of my life!)

Also, had a question for you, Summer, but I’m locked out of stupid Twitter. Any other more private way to reach you besides here?

I’m one who hates hearing the personal drama stuff of shows. I got burned out during my X-Files fandom years, where I sought out every tidbit of info I could find on the behind the scenes goings-on. At this point, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and detracts from my enjoyment. I don’t want to hear if actors didn’t get along, or what conflicts there were between people because of salaries, or who’s hooking up/breaking up with who. I just want to watch a show and not have that illusion broken by real life stuff. I guess I’m finally getting old. Never thought it would happen to me.

He could’ve easily written a trashy, “tell all” book. It wasn’t like that. I guess “professional” is how I’d describe his dealing with things. Aside from being amazed at how much this man endured growing up, I came away with even more respect for him as a person.

I’ve discovered this Podcast recently, & I’ve also read Becoming Superman recently.

I must admire the man for overcoming his childhood abuse to become what he has through sheer willpower.

You guys forgot to mention that the audiobook version of Becoming Superman was read by none other than Peter Jurasik!
