Welcome to Show #232!

Tim gives a shout-out to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams for making it to the Final Four of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships, considering that both himself and Stephen Furst are proud alumni.

Summer also has new news from Amy: she’s managed to acquire the G’Kar chest piece to go with the G’kar bust she acquired a couple years ago!

Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer are joined by The Jason Davis and Edmund Boys to discuss “The Path of Sorrows”.

Questions abound because of this episode, about the pasts of our crew, about how many more secrets may have been revealed to us over time, and much more.

Jason talks about how this episode was one of the points of contention between TNT and JMS because it was character building (just not how they asked for it?), and more.

The Path of Sorrows (Crusade)

How could character background have been built for the Excalibur crew without relying on historical Babylon 5 facts and incidents? There doesn’t seem to be any possible way, since the past of all these characters was firmly built in the known B5 universe.

Summer also can’t fully put her finger on it, but she has problems wrapping her head around how the power of asbsolution can be bestowed by a third party or uninvolved party. ‘Tis confusing.

Listener Emails: Kevin is dismayed that Summer’s bubbly enthusiam stood ground against Tim’s bile and vitriol towards “Day of the Dead”, and we are waiting for a cool new piece of ammunition against Tim;

And Summer really is working to get Neil Gaiman on the show to talk about “Day of the Dead”… he’s a really busy guy!! (it still breaks my heart that Diana Wynne Jones passed away).

Lurker’s Guide 2.0: Summer is expanding the documentation to be covered at Lurker’s Guide 2.0, the major change being converting the episode guide into a full Wiki with cross-referenced topics, tidbits and everything you’d want in a Wiki. She’s also still searching for pictures of rare collectibles, photos of magazine covers and toys, and all sorts of other B5 goodies that didn’t get included in the original guide during the years after Crusade. Let her know if you want to lend a hand.

More Parody/Filk Songs Wanted: If you know of any more B5-related fan songs out there, definitely let us know, so we can let other B5 fans know where to buy them! And if those CDs are out of print, let’s brainstorm on ways to get those songs back out there for fans!

Hey Summer. Toward the end of this show you mentioned somebody was sending you an infographic you were going to put up on the site. Did you ever get that? You have me curious.

I am on the fence about Lyta being in this episode. It would have made more sense for her to be in it since she could probably convince Matheson more then anyone else. Yet, to bring her in, it probably needs more then what the time was given to explain how the Corps got her. Also, it might have made the Telepath War movie more confusing if she was captured during that time. But, we have never got the war, so this is probably an epiosde where “stunt” casting would have helped.

I figured Bester would send PSI Cops or using Bureau 13 after Sheridan and Delenn to make sure the ISA didn’t get involved. Lennier still being very good at cloak and dagger would find out. He would scarifice himself to save them allowing Sheridan to send in ships something Bester in the PSI Corp book trilogy stated he didn’t expect. Bester is too much of a strategist to think Sheridan would just allow him to have Earth, he was probably going to have to take him maybe even through Garibaldi since I doubt the block is in the only thing that Bester left in him.

I think this is the most effective episode for Chen’s music. The forgiveness idea is pushed too hard and for too long, but the music shines here as in no other Crusade episode.

Did anyone else think the Forgiveness Alien looked like the surgeon in the flashback sequences of B5?

    Cheers!
    Michael

I still want to know where Jason got the info about the virus being tailored to the Minbari. Details like that is part of what keep me listening. Keep up the great work.

    Gary,

It’s in the LEGIONS OF FIRE trilogy…probably volume two. The plan was to use the death cloud on Earth and the plague on Minbar. When the VICTORY destroyed the former, the Drakh dumped the latter, probably on the assumption that a strike on Minbar was now less likely since they botched things on Earth.

    Mind th bugs,

    Jason
