Welcome to Show #212!
Summer and Bret wonder if Tim truly saw a scene that he remembers with extra dialogue between Lochley and Garibaldi about the potential of Sheridan losing his grip on reality due to his “condition”. Or, Tim could have been tripping, or lucid dreaming… we may never know.
Then, Summer’s mind is blown from learning of a previously unknown connection between “Fist of the North Star” and B5, and how that ties into her fanfic vision of Crusade.
Voicemails: The feedback has been piling up, so here we go!
And yeah, I would sign up on that list for getting more Crusade stories in graphic novel format.
And The Babylon Podcast lost out to The Signal yet again… we may have to just keep doing this show until we win a Parsec Award, but I don’t know if we can come up with enough material to match Susan Lucci’s streak (and if we did, Mike Mennenga may well put contracts out on us).
Should we do a B5-DS9 smackdown once we finish Crusade?
Lurker’s Guide 2.0: Summer is starting a push to get Lurker’s Guide 2.0 completed and finished, including missing collectibles, photos of magazine covers and toys, and all sorts of other B5 goodies that didn’t get included in the original guide during the years after Crusade. Let her know if you want to lend a hand.
More Parody/Filk Songs Wanted: If you know of any more B5-related fan songs out there, definitely let us know, so we can let other B5 fans know where to buy them! And if those CDs are out of print, let’s brainstorm on ways to get those songs back out there for fans!

Babylon 5 Information Gathering: If you know of a dead or abandoned B5 related website that may be in need of a new home, let Summer know! Maybe we can mirror it here or house it on a sister site.

Service Temporarily Unavailable? Did someone knock out a cord while reaching for the tequila?
7:15 PM EDT, iTunes is downloading it. Good work, whoever worked on it.
Nothing to work on, save wait. And Mike has nothing to do with the bandwidth to the servers… none of us do.
It’s our own damned fault for being so popular, yet lacking in enough resources to cover the demand ๐
9/22/10 6:44 PM EDT, same thing.
If we (the audience) are pulling this 58mB episode to hit a 10gB cap in two days (the time from when I got it to now, when it’s unavailable again), the Babylon Podcast is indeed popular!
Once more for those who have not been paying attention all these years ๐
ALL FarPoint Media shows have their media on one mondo server. So B5 is competing with Slice of SciFi, Dragon Page, I Should Be Writing, ChuckChat shows, all of Tabz’ shows, 3 or 4 of Marc Gunn’s shows… about 60-70 shows total. Everything you see listed at http://www.farpointmedia.com
All shows downloading, all the time, day and night, never ending because there are so many people listening to so many different shows.
Now, add to that the fact that there’s a second server on that same leg of bandwidth, the one handling all the websites for those shows, and you might begin to see the challenge. Tens of thousands of people visiting the websites, downloading media, all at the same time, and our poor little ISP can’t handle the load anymore. Alas, we don’t yet have the resources to upgrade (or really, move to a larger house).
So, posting comments here or on any of the other websites that shows aren’t downloading will not do anything to speed up the process, much as I would like to improve things. Trust me, every time it slows down, I’m painfully aware of it, and seeing each complaint is like a fresh stab wound to me.
So whenever you can’t download a show, take a breath, wait 20-30 minutes, and try again. Hopefully Santa will give FPM some bandwidth this year…
Got you. It doesn’t help things when iTunes just stops trying and displays the “!” that it can’t download the content. Thanks for explaining (again).
I feel your pain Summer, being in IT myself.
Seems there must be some way to move some of that bandwidth to a torrent. I’m sure many of the fans would be glad to host the more recent and bandwidth hungry files.
With torrents, we’d lose our automatic ad inserts, and if we lose those, then we’re paying for all of this out of our pockets, and our pockets aren’t deep enough to do that (hell, I’m damned near having to live out of my truck).
Damn, that sucks Summer. I think I will donate soon hearing that. I have just been a little apprehensive about donating because on Slice I usually get the impression it just goes to booze.
You will hear on this week’s Babylon Podcast (which I may actually get posted “on time” for a change!) why the donations really do help keep things running here, and it’s not earmarked for podcasting fluid, not by a long shot.
The donations really did save the studio a couple weeks ago, that week we had no way to record Slice of SciFi. The donation angels truly were the deciding factor, there.
I hope I won’t end up living on the streets, but as long as the studio keeps running, I don’t think Mike would mind me parking in his driveway to sleep safely overnight… I don’t think ๐
Just donated! Glad to help farpoint media. Maybe there would be more donations if Mike and Brian didn’t always insinuate that the money goes to booze, just a piece of advice. I would have donated a long time ago if it weren’t for that!
