Babylon Podcast Schedule Update

May 30, 2012 by Summer

Life issues have hit Tim, Jeremy and Summer pretty hard for the moment, so we’ll be taking a break from recording new shows, to catch our respective breaths, to refocus on our geeking, and to give all of us time enough to get through some of the books.

We’ll be taking the month of June off as a hiatus, but we plan to be back on the live stream recording new shows on Wednesday, July 11 2012.

First up Tim, Summer, Jeremy and Gary will chat about “Parliament of Dreams”, the collection of academic essays about Babylon 5, then next up to be recorded on July 18 will be a discussion of the non-canon numbered novels:

#1: Voices by John Vornholt
#2: Accusations by Lois Tilton
#3: Blood Oath by John Vornholt
#4: Clark’s Law by Jim Mortimore
#5: The Touch of Your Shadow, the Whisper of Your Name by Neal Barrett Jr
#6: Betrayals by S.M. Stirling
#8: Personal Agendas by Al Sarrantonio

Recording July 25, John in Jersey and Laura from the League of Non-Aligned Knitters will be joining us to discuss #9: To Dream in the City of Sorrows by Kathryn M. Drennan

Recording August 1, we will be talking about #7: The Shadow Within by Jeanne Cavelos along with Edmund and a guest who has yet to win the coin toss

Recording August 8, Will Frank and Joe C will be joining us to discuss the Centauri Prime trilogy

Recording August 15, Laura and Joe C. will be back to discuss the Technomage trilogy

Recording August 22, Edmund will join us to discuss the Psi Corps trilogy

Recording August 29, Neil from Bowie will be joining our talk about the six official short stories.

The recording schedule after that isn’t set in stone, but discussions will include the B5 CCG, the trading cards, the models, the toys, the various B5 games, and whatever else we can dig up from the archives.

There’s still time to weigh in on some topics we might have missed, and also to volunteer to join our discussions where we might be light on guest geekers… just let us know!

I would like to – if I can afford the time – potentially pop in for the short stories discussion on Aug 29 – I mean, I have the four JMS ones, just not the other two, so I can’t speak for those, but I’ll assist if I can.

The problem is that your Wednesday night is my Thursday morning, so /technically/ I should be working, but I can potentially jump onto Skype for a short while to throw my voice into the mix.

If you guys need something to talk about to extend the show, you could always do a commentary track for every episode. That would give an extra 130 or so extra shows 🙂 You could also rename the podcast to The Babylon Commentary Podcast, or Bab-Com-Cast for short.

      Ha! I love this idea!

But I’m sure we are the only ones who do.

Hee… I believe someone threw the “do episode commentary tracks” option out there last year when we figured out this would be our last season.

I think everyone could hear Mike’s head asplode 🙂

Here’s a compromise; do episodes about the B5 commentary tracks from the DVDs. Not every episode had them, like maybe 3 per season tops, plus 3 for Crusade and 1 for each of the TV movies. 😉

I think if we’d had any clue we’d be doing the show this long, we might have tackled episodic commentaries as we were doing them; maybe do a commentary as we’re watching the episode, then do the episode discussion like we were doing.

Not sure how that would have worked, watching the episode while doing the commentary and having MRM record us. And it might have been fun having him along as the “first time viewer” to balance out Jeffrey’s man-behind-the-scenes additions. Yeah, if we could have figured the logistics of that, I think we could have had some fun, at least with the major arc episodes.

Last season!? That’s sad news indeed.
All good things must come to an end I guess, but you have been a shining beacon of light for a long time now and it will be empty without you. Still, you have become a part of the B5 legacy and that is no mean feat ?

You know what’s weird? The Deep Space Nine podcast I listen to is also ending this year, after they’ve done the wrap-up episode for Season 7. What’re the odds?
