We have questions, and will continue to talk amongst ourselves until we have real info to process and overanalyze.
Speculation: Time changes us all, in many ways. So given how busy JMS is writing many things other than new stories for the new Babylon 5, it isn’t likely he’ll want to or be able to do all the writing himself. So naturally, Tim posits the questions about writers and writers rooms, and we run amok from there.
Summer ponders how long a line to join the new B5 writers room there could be. Tim throws down a Star Trek storytelling (writers room) gauntlet.
And yes, there’s so much related to Shakespeare we want to connect to the Babylon 5 universe… and how does a roundtable featuring Gary, Edmund, Jarsto, and a few others sound to you? Or speculation about what new merchandise (toys) might look like?
This is the 2014 documentary Summer mentioned: Showrunners: The Art of Running a TV Show, there’s a DVD and a book.

Glad to hear your voices once again. Can’t wait to actually listen to it.
Wahoo ! A new show. Great to hear the deep geeking.
I can’t imagine JMS could do it all again, but I don’t doubt he can do it better.
Random reactions, as I listen:
Of course, JMS taking over Season 4 was mostly driven by the presumption that Season 5 wasn’t happening. And, “writers rooms” as they now exist were unheard of then. It was creators and free-lance scripts.
Via his Patreon posts (yes, $20/month is a pop, but I love being closer to the source), the eye problems have been addressed, I believe. Now, the issue is more the volume of work.
Thank you, Tim, not that I’d expect anything less, for acknowledging Dorothy and the other (better, in my view) Gene.
With you, Tim, on Disco and Picard. I’m dreading the TNG reunion in Season 3 of Picard.
“Men of a Certain Age”!!!! Andre Braugher, one of the best actors on the planet. Plus Scott Bakula, who always has the faith of my heart.
Sense8 foundered when JMS stepped back in Season 2 and Lily took over. Kudos for extraordinary representation, not so hot on advancing the plot. The finale should have been mid-season, with the rest based in London, which would have brought down the production expenses dramatically.
Now, I’m wondering about the differences between typing (Harlan being the prototype, of course) or dictating scripts and stories. Joyce wrote longhand, but his books actually read better when read. Hmm…
What I’ve heard of Writers Rooms is that one writer comes up the first draft, then the producers, or show runner, goes to work on it. Which is where we get those multiple writer credits on episodes, especially on Mad Men, with Matthew Wiener often added.
Macbeth in Narn! And then, Nice, Tim! Drazi Macbeth it is!
And Magic Chalk almost intrudes….
Mira laughing is pure joy. We all miss her so much, and all the others.
I was stunned that the reboot rolled over. But cameras gotta roll before I believe it’s happening. And even then, it’s gotta get picked up.
And, yes, I’m up for a Centauri Long Table. I promise not to surf over it, and crack Claudia up!
Mars! Have you been watching “For All Mankind”? I cried last night on touchdown. It’s showing me the Space Program 5-year-old me expected after watching 2001, the Moon Landing, and UFO
“Not some Deep Space franchise”! Maybe not, this time. I’ve never been a big action figure guy. And then I look at my Konami UFO figures of Skydiver (favourite craft ever, however silly the physics) and SID. A B5 and Black Omega would look good over there.
2-1/2 days for Prince? I’m with Tim, that’s worth it.
How did I miss this episode until now???
It seems that in the wake of the reboot news, multiple new Babylon 5 Podcasts have popped up. Yet none of them come even close to the quality of the Babylon Podcast!
Will you fire this place up again in 2023? Please say yes!
Thanks for the kind words and sentiments! A couple of those new podcasts are fun because some of those folks are first-time watchers… so cool to hear fresh eyes talking about the show we’ve loved for so long.
Yes, the plan is to pick up where we left off once we have new B5 content to talk about… but we’re like everyone else, with no idea exactly when that might be!
